Purpose

Provide instructional support for undergraduate courses in the Freshman Research Initiative in the College of Natural Sciences. Help plan and organize instructional materials and activities, and supervise FRI stream students in executing scientific research projects in their field.Familiarize new students with relevantbackground information and techniques, as well as work with mentors and continuing students to make progress on projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design instructional materials and teach relevant content and techniques.
  • Provide feedback to students regarding assignments and progress, both synchronously and asynchronously.
  • If applicable, maintain lab operations including equipment, purchasing, and lab safety/training.
  • Coordinate activities of undergraduate mentors/course assistants
  • Participate in FRI program activities.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field. English proficiency. Completed previous scientific course work or laboratory work in a related field, as applicable. Accuracy and attention to detail, decision making and critical thinking, effective communications including writing skills, initiative, excellent interpersonal skills, problem solving. Ability to enforce safety guidelines in the laboratory. Strong student-centered approach and commitment to fostering a challenging but nurturing learning environment. Selected applicants must complete student information privacy training (FERPA training) and Title IX training.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in the research field of the current opening.

Salary Range

$44,444 depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • Short term position 08/16/2023 - 12/31/2023.

  • Will work around standard office conditions.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

  • May involve standing for a few hours at a time.

  • May involve working in a lab where hazardous materials may be present.
