Purpose
From basic remodels to large multi-phase capital projects, the LAITS Technology Integration Team works closely with owners, project managers, and architectural designers, to shepherd complex technology projects through consultation, design, purchasing, construction, installation, and commissioning. Our staff also partner with end users and faculty to develop custom control system programming, interfaces, training, and documentation for over six hundred presentation and collaboration systems across campus. Our efforts ensure the successful use of technology to deliver over one hundred and fifty thousand hours of instruction each semester. The Senior Audio Visual Systems Installation Technician position is a critical part of the Technology Integration team. The installation team performs the hardware and physical layer installations that form the foundation of complex, high-quality integrated systems.
Working with the LAITS Technology Integration system designers, the project manager, the work control coordinator, and other both internal and external project resources, this Senior Installation Technician absorbs all details of small projects prior to construction, coordinates project timelines, planning, and communication, leads junior technicians in the active construction process, facilitates the handover process to the support team, and assists in team training and building exercises.
Responsibilities
Performing or supporting senior installation staff when performing the highest level installation work.
Leading junior installation staff in various, more common installation tasks.
Responsible for absorbing project details for all incoming small projects as assigned by leadership.
Attending project meetings with university and external resources to understand timelines and necessary team resources to complete small projects and perform site inspections prior to installation.
Effective coordination with internal team members to achieve project timelines.
Sustained maintenance of available project management applications to keep team members informed of project status and when internal deliverables are due.
Performing the handover to the support team, demonstrating a high-quality, functional system after system installation and commissioning has been completed.
Perform an internal check in after project completion to promote constant improvement.
Required Qualifications
High School Degree or GED
At least 4 years of audio-visual installation experience.
Technical Schooling in AV or IT specific field / s
Skills comparable to four years of experience in the skilled construction and maintenance of audio / visual equipment.
Ability to use hand and power tools, soldering iron, crimpers, multimeters, signal generators, and testers.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to troubleshoot and assist with the commissioning of AV systems of varying size and complexity.
Skills comparable to one year of project management in a technical field.
Demonstrated skilled use of various industry standard computer applications for project management.
This position requires the ability to drive a university vehicle.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in construction or management field
More than 6 years of work experience in audio visual systems design and installation.
More than 2 years in AV or IT project management at an enterprise level.
Demonstrated experience with construction project management software such as Fieldwire, Procore, BIM360
OSHA 10 hour course training.
CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D certification.
Crestron CTI certification.
Biamp DSP training.
Extron AV associate certification.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary Range
70,000 depending on qualifications
