The University of Texas at El Paso College of Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Department of Public Health Sciences diabetes research group. This role offers the opportunity to work on the implementation of science diabetes intervention research projects focused on community diabetes education programs. The Department of Public Health Sciences conducts culturally-centered diabetes intervention research and is dedicated to expanding and scaling interventions at community and organizational levels. This research incorporates curriculum development, health messaging/communication, and community engagement methodologies. By leveraging our access to a predominantly Hispanic population, we aim to develop effective prevention and treatment strategies for diabetes prevention and management. The successful candidate will engage in intervention research, contribute to grant writing, prepare manuscripts for publication, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and implement translational and implementation science using mixed-methods research.
  • Conducted clinical trials with human subjects, including assessments of behavioral and physical diabetes prevention/management outcomes, and sociocultural factors.
  • Prepare and submit IRB applications, ensuring compliance with ethical research practices.
  • Collect, analyze, and manage complex research data sets.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication and present research findings at professional conferences.
  • Contribute to grant writing efforts.
  • Assist with the overall management and coordination of ongoing research projects within the Department of Public Health Sciences.
  • Collaborate with and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research methodologies and project execution.

Job Requirements:


Successful candidates will have earned a Ph.D. in a relevant field (such as Public Health, Health Sciences, or Health Psychology) by the appointment date. Applicants must demonstrate a proven track record in conducting human subjects research, particularly those focused on diabetes prevention and management. In addition, preferred candidates should exhibit technical proficiency in survey design and quantitative and qualitative analysis and evaluation.

Candidates should have a strong record of research productivity, including successful internal and external grant writing efforts and effective manuscript preparation/publications in peer-reviewed venues. Familiarity with Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes and regulatory compliance is also required, along with robust skills in the collection, analysis, and management of complex research data.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary research teams and a strong commitment to translational research. While the primary focus is on clinical research, experience in both clinical and bench research settings will be viewed favorably.


Additional Information:


This position is funded through the Regents' Research Excellence Program and is contingent upon availability of funds. The initial salary is competitive, based on qualifications and experience, and comes with excellent fringe benefits.
