Under the supervision of the VP for Student Affairs, the Director of Residence Life and Housing (DRL) coordinates significant portions of the Reslife program. The DRL plays an integral role in executing the mission of the Residence Life program of creating an environment of authentic, Christian community that is conducive to healthy living and academic pursuits, which is supported by the University's mission of leadership and service. The DRL supervises the professional Residence Hall Directors and the paraprofessional student staff. The DRL is directly responsible for overseeing all residential programming and events, including the direct supervision of the Residential Event Committee (REC) as well as serving and overseeing departmental committees. The DRL position requires well-developed skills in working independently, solving problems, implementing initiatives to achieve departmental goals, understanding college student development, making decisions that impact individual residents, office administration, and crisis response.

Other job responsibilities include:
All Residence Life Staffing (Hall Directors and Resident Assistants) report to the Director of Residence Life.

ResLife/Housing
- Coordination of the interviewing and hiring process for the Reslife Staff including AC, RHDs, RHLs, and RAs.
- Updating, developing, and coordinating the training and assessment for the Reslife Staff including ACs, RHD, RHL, and RA Orientations; weekly RHD meetings; monthly Reslife meetings; and ongoing training and professional development.
- Supporting the Reslife staff in their attempts to serve and support students (1-on-1's, Zones, and other departmental initiatives).
- Reviewing campus assessments to better develop the Reslife and Housing program.
- Management of the residential programming budget.
- Responsible for supervising departmental outreach and communication to students and parent including social media accounts.
- Responsible for setting the vision and operational agenda for all programs in Housing & Residential Life and for maintaining an ongoing system of evaluation and assessment of an array of staff, programs, and activities.
- On-Campus Residence: The Director of Residence Life is expected to reside on campus to foster a strong sense of community and accessibility for students. This position includes housing accommodations as part of the employment package.

Student Support
- Working in partnership with the Director of Student Development to better serve and care for students’ needs.
- Collaborating with college and university officials and departments to manage student crises.
- Providing counseling and conflict mediation while enforcing university policy to resolve student conduct issues.
- Planning and executing campus housing operations.
- Assessing situations and determining appropriate action or referral.
- Identifying and responding to student needs for programs, services, and crisis intervention.

Administrative Support
- Working in partnership with the Director of Student Development to develop align university policies and procedures with state and federal regulations and standards.
- Working independently under general supervision to provide information and interpret complex policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Reporting to VP and Executive VP on housing capacity and facility needs weekly or more frequently as required.
- Supervising housing office hours of Area Coordinators and setting expectations for Residence Hall Director to prioritize responsiveness to all emails, calls, and follow-up with any student, parent, family, community, or other internal department request, concern, or question. Customer service is a high priority and should be delivered as friendly and top-priority.
- Support the Director as needed in Judicial Affairs including, addressing violations of the Student Code of Conduct, maintain judicial records, and coordinating appeals processes.
- Working SOAR, Patriot Preview Day, and other campus events as needed.
- Overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Housing Office and addressing student and parent concerns as they arise.
- Utilizing the functions of The Housing Director (THD) to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
- Communicating and organizing communication efforts of Area Coordinators with students and their parents in a professional, timely, and helpful manner.
- Overseeing Reslife and Housing schedules to ensure process timelines and deadlines are met.
- Splitting administrative on-call shifts with DSL to support RHDs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- Master's degree preferred in higher education, counseling, student personnel administration, or related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in higher education.
- Experience in administrative supervision of professional staff.
- Experience in residence hall and student personnel management
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Box, and MCR or Guardian Software system.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate personal commitment to the principles and values of the University of the Cumberlands.
