General Description of Duties
As a UDC Service Desk Technician-L1, the desired candidate will play a vital role in supporting the university strategic plan by ensuring seamless day-to-day operations. You'll troubleshoot issues, provide hands-on support to UDC Campuses, and collaborate with the OIT team members to deliver efficient solutions— that will provide user-friendly experience.
The desired candidate will approach challenges with a sense of urgency and a focus on delivering timely, effective solutions. Strong communication skills are critical within this role the desired candidate will need to have the ability to clearly communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical users. The desired candidate will have the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities without missing the details. The desired candidate will be able to thrive in a collaborative setting, supporting your colleagues and contributing to the University's strategic plan.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by AFSCME local 2087 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.
Employment Benefits: Selectee will be eligible for health and life insurance, annual (vacation) and sick leave and will be covered under the University of the District of Columbia's retirement plan (TIAA).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for end-users via phone, email, and other channels.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network-related issues with a user-first mindset.
- Work closely with other client service team members to troubleshoot and improve processes.
- Perform on-site troubleshooting and repairs for desktops, printers, and peripherals.
- Install, configure, and update software applications to enhance user productivity.
- configure operating systems and COTS applications.
- Utilize help desk ticketing system
- Provide support to the Windows desktop engineer including package creation, system troubleshooting, and system management.
- Associate degree or equivalent experience in IT or a related field.
- 2- 3 years of Hands-on experience in a help desk or technical support role.
- Industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA A , Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate) are a plus.
- Experience with Windows Desktop Administration; MacOS Support; configuring and troubleshooting MS Office applications; Dell laptop and MacBook experience
- Experience building desktops and laptops using imaging software
- Experience creating and maintaining desktop imaging (package)
- Experience managing software packages in an end point manager (SCCM. JAMF, Intune)
- Experience with Active Directory, managing user accounts and passwords, and troubleshooting permissions issues
