The Budget Analyst is responsible for providing complex professional analysis in the preparation and processing of budget documents in the Budget Office within the Vice President of Business and Finance Office. The Budget Analyst reports to the Director of Budgeting, Planning and Analysis.

Description Of Job Duties
- Assist in managing intricate financial models used by the university for organization-wide decision making.
- Compile and review annual budget request from deans and vice presidents.
- Create financial reports, and charts in developing, organizing, and implementing the annual budget by gathering data, preparing spreadsheets, and conducting basic financial analyses.
- In coordination with the budgeting team, ensure sufficient departmental budget exists and manage budget adjustment entries by utilizing the university’s Banner ERP system.
- Conduct detailed month-end variance analyses and ad-hoc analyses as needed. Investigate key drivers and causes of material budget variances and communicate those drivers to the Director of Budgeting, Planning and Analysis.
- Assist with monitoring and analyzing all revenues and expenditures during the year for the purse of maintaining budgetary controls, projecting variances and correcting errors with budget revisions.
- Update and maintain various spreadsheets and pivot tables to include ledger activity, monthly checklist of accounts, and other budgetary related information;
- Maintain records of actual operating figures for comparison with estimated budget;
- Prepare reports and estimate future financial needs.
- Defend budget recommendations with data and evidence-based analyses.
- Identify, research, and resolve budget discrepancies related to financials and personnel.
- Advise and assist university staff concerning budget related inquires.
- Assist in conducting budget training, special projects, and assignments.
- Work with departments and programs to process financial transactions with established parameters.
- Review deans and vice presidents budget proposals for completeness and accuracy.
- Organize and prioritize work in order to meet rigid schedules and budget timelines.
- Monitor assigned areas of position control system and report results of staffing to identify variances; ensure compliance with the budget.
- Update the salary budget projection system so proper funding for salaries and fringe benefits can be included in the annual budget request.
- Maintain and update complex employee spreadsheets with information regarding employees, departments, salaries, titles, etc..
- Assist in preparing and sending out new hire letters for administrators, staff and faculty.
- Update and monitor positions and budget salaries in Banner.
- Assist in Salary Planner and prepare employment contracts and letters.
- Maintain effective working relationships with departments.
- Inform program managers and deans on the status and availability of funds.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Well-developed math skills to perform complex accounting and statistical computations.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Outlook and Word; highly proficient in Microsoft Excel to include pivot tables, VLOOKUP , and formulating spreadsheets, charts and graphs.
- Experience with analytical tools; excellent critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize assignments with attention to detail.
