Position Summary
UIWSOM is seeking outstanding applicants for a full-time clinical faculty position to participate in a variety of activities within the Clinical & Applied Science Education ( CASE ) department, with a focus on osteopathic principles, practices, and integration ( OPPI ). Participation in clinical practice activities is negotiable. The faculty position reports to the Chair of the CASE department.
The faculty member will have responsibilities that include curricular development and support, faculty development in the area of osteopathic philosophy, delivery of osteopathic patient care, and community engagement with physicians. The faculty member will be expected to facilitate small interactive group sessions and engage in case-based and large group discussions. The candidate will operate within the UIWSOM framework of lifelong learning through collaborative scholarship, innovative educational excellence and learner-centered curricula.

Essential Functions
- Per the SOM mission and accreditation standards, the faculty member will participate in the implementation of a transformative curriculum that involves the collaborative development and implementation of competency based, innovative and integrated teaching and learning strategies.
- Teaching activities include the following topics/skills: clinical reasoning, medical interviewing, communication, physical examination, osteopathic manipulative medicine, medical procedures.
- Teaching activities may also involve interaction with standardized patient actors and the use of simulation models.
- Faculty members will participate in student skills assessments.
- There may be other times in which teaching, mentoring or advising will occur, and arrangements will be made with the Chair.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Passion for and commitment to medical student education for purposes of optimizing patient outcomes, particularly in vulnerable and marginalized patient populations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in complex interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings.
- Knowledge of osteopathic philosophy.
- Knowledge of osteopathic manipulative techniques ( OMT ).
- Strong knowledge base of medical history taking and clinical skills.
- Commitment to social justice and values-driven curricula.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with administration, staff, peers and full-time and community-based faculty.
- Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA .
- D.O. degree from a COCA -accredited medical school.
- Training in an accredited Family Medicine residency program or other primary care residency program.
- Experience working on a team of physician faculty in an academic setting.
- Experience teaching in small and/or large group settings.
- Active use of osteopathic manipulation in clinical practice.
- Experience teaching OMT to osteopathic medical students, residents, and/or physicians.
- Experience with case-based and active learning methods in both small and large group settings.
- Experience in computer-assisted delivery of course content.
- Fluent in Spanish.
- Board certification or board eligibility in Family Medicine or other primary care specialty.
- Valid unrestricted Texas medical license, or ability to obtain Texas licensure in a reasonable time frame.
