Primary Purpose

The experienced, student-focused, and data-centric leader as Senior Assistant Dean or Assistant Dean for Admissions, will be joining our cutting-edge curriculum, including two, required clinic or externship experiences, three semesters of global lawyering skills (our legal writing program), a guaranteed and required mentoring program, top-10 programs in trial advocacy and government law, innovative clinics (including a homeless advocacy clinic, a legislative and policy clinic, a prisoner civil rights mediation clinic, a federal defender clinic (one of two in the nation), and an elder and health law clinic. McGeorge is the home of the State of California's Victims of Crime Legal Resource Center and Institute for Law Teaching and Learning, reflecting the law school's commitment to service and emphasis on excellence in teaching.
The Senior Assistant Dean or Assistant Dean for Admissions is responsible for the creation and implementation of strategies that meet the enrollment goals for new student enrollment in the JD Program at McGeorge Law School and has oversight of the JD Admissions Office including merit scholarships for incoming law students.
The final job title will be determined based on the level of experience of the hired candidate.
Essential Functions
- Oversee the operations of the JD Admissions Office. This includes oversight of professional and support staff, day-to-day office operations, admissions data and data tracking, and the operations budget.
- Provide back-up to the Financial Aid office and answer student questions relating to financial aid as necessary.
- Create and implement strategies to influence the enrollment goals for new student enrollment, demographic characteristics, and other objectives defined by the dean and the faculty. Participate in the strategic planning activities of the university with special attention to areas that have enrollment implications. Align discounting strategies with budget in cooperation with the Dean and the Chair of the Admissions Committee.
- Oversee, in collaboration with the law school's Director of Marketing and Communications, the development of new student recruitment publications, the law school website, and other outreach efforts.
- Coordinate with International Programs, LLM, JSD, MSL, MPP and MPA programs to create a cohesive student recruitment program across McGeorge School of Law.
- Oversee the scholarship award program for incoming students to attract the most diverse and well qualified applicants available.
- Represent the law school in recruitment events across the country, throughout the state, and in the local region.
- Ensure compliance with the LSAC, ABA, law school, and university best practices.
- Coordinate, with the Dean, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Alumni Relations, Student Affairs, Career Development, faculty, students, and alumni to ensure and enhance participation of all of these groups in recruitment and yield events.
- Actively engage in research and assessment of new student recruitment, undergraduate enrollment, and financial aid awarding strategies.
- Coordinate the law school's role in the university-wide strategic enrollment and marketing planning.
- Act as the university expert on law school enrollment trends, establish and maintain relevant trend and market research data, and monitor the effectiveness of programs and services in support of strategic enrollment goals.
- Oversee all communications with prospective, new, and returning students.
- Oversee the budget for the JD Admissions Office and merit scholarships, and direct changes as needed to maximize effectiveness.
- Develop programs designed to aid in the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a culturally diverse and academically qualified student population.
- Set performance expectations and customer service standards for the JD Admissions Office and annually monitor and evaluate office functions against those standards.
- Represent JD Admissions on appropriate law school and university committees.
- Other duties as assigned.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range
145,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
