Primary Purpose

Under the general direction of the Director of Student-Athlete Development, the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development will support, guide, and promote student-athlete development while promoting an environment of academic excellence and fostering student success and retention.

This individual will develop and implement life skills programming, provide academic counseling, monitor academic progress toward degree graduation and NCAA eligibility, provide guidance to support academic success and connect student-athletes to campus resources.

Essential Functions

  • Monitor the academic progress of assigned teams. Provide reports on the academic status of assigned teams to Head Coaches of assigned teams and both the Director of Student-Athlete Development and Associate AD for Compliance & Student-Athlete Development/SWA in regularly established meetings or on a regular cadence.
  • Monitor and manage NCAA progress towards degree completion and continuing academic eligibility for all assigned student-athletes in coordination with the Director of Compliance.
  • Make necessary and appropriate referrals to campus resources. Maintain current and accurate knowledge of department and academic campus resources.
  • Meet regularly with at-risk student-athletes and provide individualized academic support.
  • Serve as a liaison between student-athletes, coaches, athletic compliance, faculty, and other campus student-support services.
  • Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families to review student-athlete development services.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of holistic student-athlete development programs such as PSAAC (Pacific Student-Athlete Advisory Committee), career development seminars, and personal development seminars.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable rules and laws relative to student privacy and FERPA.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • One (1) year of experience in academic counseling or career development/coaching.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree.
  • Two (2) years of experience in athletics, student development or advisement in a university or college setting.
  • Experience in developing, executing, and evaluating student-athlete development programming.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as they pertain to initial and continuing eligibility.
  • Ability to work extended hours and select weekends in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with a diverse population of student-athletes in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to work with students with various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work requires frequent sitting and computer use. Occasional walking, standing, walking across campus, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching. Constant verbal and written communication. May be required to lift up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel

Work is primarily performed in a standard office and classroom environment with use of computer and phone, occasionally performed in sports facilities. Work performed during standard business hours as well as frequent nights and weekends. Limited travel required.

Hiring Range: $20.35 - $26.96 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
