Position Description

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
University of the Pacific's Benerd College is seeking a colleague to join our Counseling and School Psychology Department. The successful candidate will lead the master's programs in Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counseling. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of teaching, advising, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and stakeholders. The position will be based at the Stockton Campus.

This is a nine-month appointment with the possibility of summer teaching for additional compensation. This colleague will hold a faculty appointment as Professor of Practice with the rank of assistant or associate professor, depending on experience level.

With an anticipated hire for the 25-26 academic year, this is a one year, potentially renewable, benefit eligible, non-tenure track position with eligibility for promotion to associate and/or full professor. Please note that faculty rank and title are contingent upon the successful candidate's experience and qualifications.

The basic teaching workload is three courses each fall and two courses each spring semester for a 3-2 load. The position will teach primarily in the Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counseling programs but teaching responsibilities may also include classes in other department programs.

The position also includes involvement in doctoral dissertations (including chairing dissertations), student recruitment, community engagement, curriculum development, internal service, and scholarship. This position will play a key role in leading and sustaining of the MA programs in Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counseling by:
  • Leading the iterative design and assessment of the program purpose, scope, and outcomes.
  • Building school, community, business, and other relationships to advance the program.
  • Building and executing our marketing plan for the program.
  • Serving as faculty contact for prospective students.
  • Presenting and engaging with prospective students at various recruitment events, both in-person and online.
  • Developing faculty and providing opportunities for professional development/collaboration to transform the teaching/learning experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree (Marriage and Family Therapy or Professional Clinical Counseling eligible).
  • Earned Doctorate in counseling, clinical, or school psychology or a closely related field, or expected by July 1, 2025.
  • Licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist or Professional Clinical Counselor in California.
  • Expertise and experience in performing the essential activities of a mental health professional.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially regarding working with students with diverse experiences and perspectives.
  • Demonstrated ability or clear promise of teaching excellence.
  • Demonstrated excellence or clear promise of scholarly research.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a caring and rigorous educational environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate from an APA-accredited program in counseling, clinical, or school psychology, expected by July 1, 2025.
  • Eligible for licensure as a psychologist in California and commitment to obtain these state credentials if hired.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with dissertation development, including serving as dissertation chair.
  • Demonstrated successful hybrid or online teaching experience.
  • Practitioner experience in P/K-20 education, nonprofit, and/or community organizations.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
Hiring Range $80,000.00- $90,000.00 per year. (We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer).
