POSITION SUMMARY
Under close supervision from the dental faculty this hygiene assistant will perform duties in support of the dental office and operatory functions, assist in proper clinical procedures, and perform duties related to direct patient treatment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- The basic functions of this position are to perform chair side duties which include seating the patient, aspirate patients, clean and sterilize instruments and trays, set up operatory prior to treatment, clean up operatory after treatment and take necessary x-rays.
- The basic function of this position is to perform clerical duties which includes answering phones, making appointments, maintaining patient records, and maintaining supply inventory.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 12 months of experience in dental office practices and procedures or completed a dental assisting program in lieu of experience.
Certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Radiography License
Skills
- Demonstrates clinical competency in caring for patients as identified in the unit’s Scope of Care.
- Demonstrates competency in the care of the patient in the following stages of the life cycle: infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
- Effectively responds to customer service needs.
- Seeks out ways to assist patients and co-workers.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Employee works in a professional office environment with possible high stress levels. Physical demands are on a minimal basis. Occasional irregular work shifts. Rigid instrument accountability standards, exposure to unpredictable behavior of patients; exposed to contagious diseases; may be required to stand for long periods of time; and may be required to transport patients from the dental clinic.
