The Campus Security Officer-Armed report directly to the shift supervisor and is responsible for the safe and effective prevention, preparation, response, and recovery from threats to the safety, security and welfare of the University of Tulsa students, faculty, staff, and visitors.At the direction of the shift supervisor may also be required to assume other duties and tasks as required by the needs of the department.CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:
- Informs the shift supervisor of any unusual situations or circumstances that come to their attention.
- Patrols assigned areas making inquiries and inspection oriented towards protecting of life and property, preventing emergencies, hazards, and crimes.
- Observes and reports any faulty or unsafe equipment and/or conditions.
- Thoroughly investigates all assigned incidents and document the findings of the investigation on department report forms.
- Accurately completes all necessary administrative forms and reports.
- Enforces University safety, parking, and traffic regulations by the issuance of University citations.
- Diffuses difficult situations and accompanies unauthorized individuals off university owned and controlled property.
- Makes crucial decisions under stress and is held accountable for the result.
- Determines when, and under what circumstances, to use non-lethal or deadly force.
- May be subjected to bodily harm with the possibility of loss of life.
- May be subjected to public criticism and social pressures that create stress.
- May encounter both health and safety hazards and wear required personal protective equipment.
- Testifies clearly and truthfully during campus conduct hearings and/or court proceedings.
- Provides emergency first aid to injured or ill person(s) and assists in the transportation of these persons when necessary.
- Admits authorized person(s) into locked buildings, facilities, and rooms during business and non-business hours.
- Responds to building alarms.
- Responds to calls for assistance.
- Assists stranded motorists by jumping dead batteries, changing flat tires, and pushing disabled vehicles.
- Provides crowd and/or traffic control during scheduled activities and/or emergency situations.
- Provides security during the transportation of large sums of cash and/or other valuables.
- Provides basic information, direction and assistance to university personnel, students, and visitors.
- Occasionally remains on-duty, past their normal work shift, in the event of an emergency.
- Occasionally works outside their normal work hours because of increased workload or the staffing of special events.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED; Valid State Drivers License; ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical examination, vision screening and drug screening; Meeting or exceeding the minimum job standards of a University of Tulsa Campus Safety and Security Officer; Ability to meet and maintain the requirements set forth in 59 O.S., section 1750.1 et seq., The Oklahoma Security Guard and Private Investigator Act; Must be eligible to be certified for CLEET: Phases 1-4 (Armed); Proficiency utilizing a computer with Microsoft Word and Excel software; Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to defuse difficult and/or emotional situations. Ability to work with minimal supervision; Ability to exercise total discretion in managing sensitive and confidential information; Ability to meet and maintain the firearms qualification standards of the University of Tulsa Department of Campus Safety and Security; Ability to successfully meet and maintain the physical fitness standards of the University of Tulsa Department of Campus Safety and Security. Previous experience in safety and security preferred
