Job Summary
The University of Utah School of Music seeks a dynamic and dedicated individual to teach, inspire students and manage the University Piano Outreach Program ( UPOP ). This position combines teaching, leadership, and administrative responsibilities, including the oversight and management of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between the University and partner organizations.
Responsibilities
Coordination and Management of the University Piano Outreach Program
- Oversee all aspects of UPOP , including curriculum development, instructional oversight, and administrative management.
- Supervise, observe and train graduate Teaching Assistants (TAs) who teach in the Outreach Program.
- Supervise and train student volunteers.
- Maintain communication with elementary school boards, principals, and after-school program coordinators to ensure effective operation of the program.
- Maintain detailed records of TAs, volunteers, and students participating in the program.
- Actively participate in community outreach and events to promote the Piano Outreach Program and engage with diverse community members.
MOU Development and Oversight
- Oversee the development, negotiation, and execution of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between the University of Utah and partner organizations hosting UPOP .
- Draft and develop MOUs that clearly outline program terms, expectations, and responsibilities of all parties.
- Collaborate with host organizations to review MOU clauses, address concerns, and reach agreements that reflect shared goals.
- Serve as the primary liaison between program leadership and the University of Utah’s legal counsel, ensuring legal compliance and submitting draft MOUs for review and necessary revisions.
- Manage the signing process to ensure MOUs are executed in a timely manner, securing signatures from all parties involved.
- Maintain a database of signed MOUs, track deadlines for renewals or amendments, and ensure compliance with institutional policies and contractual obligations.
- Represent UPOP as a key ambassador, fostering positive relationships with host locations and ensuring alignment with program objectives.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Specific teaching assignments are subject to change based on enrollment, budget, and other considerations, as determined by the Director of the School of Music in consultation with the Program Coordinator.
- Other duties may be assigned as mutually agreed upon by the instructor and the Director of the School of Music.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience teaching piano to students of various skill levels.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
- Experience supervising and mentoring teaching assistants or volunteers.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with students, parents, and community partners.
- Familiarity with legal terminology and the ability to interpret and apply institutional policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A graduate degree in music, piano performance, or piano pedagogy.
- Experience in community engagement or outreach programs.
- Experience negotiating contracts or agreements, particularly in an educational or nonprofit setting.
- Spanish Language Proficiency (not required but helpful)

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), and two years related experience required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
