The Business Data Analyst will join the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) Strategy and Analytics Office, reporting to the HCI Manager of Strategy and Analytics. The HCI Strategy and Analytics Office (SAO) drives strategy development and data analytics for clinical care and cancer research initiatives. This role supports both facets of SAO’s responsibilities.
The Business Data Analyst contributes to an array of projects supporting HCI’s dual clinical and research mission and objectives. This role conducts data analysis projects including statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and data mining. The position calls for detail-oriented analysis as well as an ability to think critically, abstractly, and theoretically. Successful performance is demonstrated through management and analysis of complex databases, completion of business analyses, and assisting in the design and articulation of business strategy. Day-to-day tasks include providing highly accurate reports, dashboards, and ad-hoc analyses related to clinical operations, financial performance, research initiatives, and market trends.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Coordination and management of simultaneous projects is essential to the success of HCI SAO. The following is representative but not all-inclusive of work performed by this position:
- Collaborate with organization stakeholders to gather and refine business requirements for analytics and reporting.
- Track and evaluate the progress of organizational objectives using existing databases and new data capture and maintenance.
- Prepare analytical documents and presentations with clear writing and effective graphical representations.
- Design and build reports and dashboards using a variety of tools.
- Enhance data integration and work with data warehouse architects to translate requirements.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to contribute to organization objectives.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to extract and process data using SQL.
- Tableau experience highly preferred.
- Problem-solving and prioritization skills.
- Data collection, maintenance, and integration expertise.
- Excellent verbal/written communications and customer-relations skills.
- Understanding of healthcare operations data utilization for strategic decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Two to four years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

Preferences
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in statistics, econometrics, quantitative social science, finance, business administration, applied science or related fields.
- Relevant healthcare operations experience.
- Thorough expertise in SQL coding and Tableau.
- Knowledge of data warehousing and architecture principles.
