The UW School of Medicine (UWSOM) has 19 clinical departments and 13 biomedical research departments supporting undergraduate, graduate, undergraduate medical education, and graduate medical education. UWSOM is seeking exceptionally qualified candidates for the next Chair of the Department of Urology. The position is a full-time and tenured academic position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor commensurate with experience and qualifications with an anticipated start date for the position in summer 2025. Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in clinical care, teaching, research, and service.?

The Department of Urology at the University of Washington is consistently ranked as one of the top Urology departments in the United States. The department has more than 60 faculty that span clinical, research, and educational programs. The clinical faculty provide the highest quality urologic care at sites of practice including UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC), Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH) and the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Healthcare System serving patients throughout the Seattle region, the state of Washington and four neighboring states. Multidisciplinary teams provide comprehensive urologic services to improve the function, level of independence and quality of life of people throughout the Pacific Northwest. The department has five Endowed Chairs and 4 Endowed Professorships / Fellowships. Numerous faculty hold prominent national leadership roles.

The Department’s research portfolio includes extensive federally funded programs in NIDDK and NCI relevant diseases and is ranked #11 in funding amongst urology programs across the U.S., with over 60 research personnel and 7,000 sq ft of laboratory space. Established multidisciplinary research efforts are conducted in collaboration with FHCC, VA PSHCS and Seattle Children’s Research Institute, UW Applied Physics Lab, Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center (HIPRC), and with investigators in the School of Medicine and other academic institutions across the US. The department’s highly sought educational programs consist of an ACGME accredited Residency Program that graduates 4 residents per year, including 2 on the five-year (clinical) and 2 on the six-year (research) residency tracks, an ACGME accredited Fellowship in pediatric urology, and accredited (non-ACGME) fellowship programs in Andrology / Men’s Health, Endourology and Minimally Invasive Surgery, Genitourinary Reconstruction, and Urologic Oncology.

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively to equally advance and support the clinical, research, and educational programs of a large diverse department and is expected to lead with excellence in clinical practice, research, educating, mentoring, and working with faculty, administration, residents, and students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds. This position will be expected to engage in strategic planning, mentorship, and development of clinician and non-clinician scientists, and will be expected to support the department's commitment to fostering an equitable environment that is inclusive, humanistic and respects all facets of diversity. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, exceptional clinical acumen, superb communication skills, and emotional intelligence.

Salary :

The base salary range for this position will be : Associate Professor range : $29,167 - $35,000 per month ($350,004 - $420,000 annually), Professor range : $35,900 - $46,031 per month ($430,800- $552,372 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other Compensation :

In addition to base salary, Department Chairs receive an administrative supplement tied to their administrative role as chair and may be eligible to receive semi-annual additional compensation in lieu of incentive.

Qualifications

The candidate must possess an MD, DO, or foreign equivalent degree and be board-certified in

urology (or equivalent).

All candidates must be eligible for and able to maintain a Washington State medical license. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
