Under general administrative supervision of the Assistant Director of Inpatient APPs, and medical supervision of the trauma/surgical critical care service medical director, the APP provides clinical expertise to patients and their families, is a resource person for health care providers, and participates in research and teaching programs.
Work is performed primarily in the Trauma/Surgical ICU, 7 days a week with general independence and decision-making responsibility, under the guidance of the attending physicians, and in consultation with the critical care fellow, and department Nurse Manager.
Guidelines include general policy procedures and practice guidelines established by the trauma surgical critical care service and Harborview Medical Center, as well as appropriate professional and technical manuals.

• Nurse Practitioner:
- Masters or Doctorate Degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing
- AND Washington State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License with prescriptive privileges
- AND National certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
- Masters or Doctorate Degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing
- AND Washington State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License with prescriptive privileges
- AND National certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
• Physician Assistant:
- Licensure as a Physician’s Assistant in the State of Washington
- AND national certification from a national certifying body (NCCPA)
- Licensure as a Physician’s Assistant in the State of Washington
- AND national certification from a national certifying body (NCCPA)
• BLS/ACLS certification required
