University Marketing & Communications has an exciting opening for an Associate Director for Development and Executive Communications. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The Associate Director for Development and Executive communications provides strategic support and thought leadership on communications related the University’s philanthropic goals and priorities, including developing clear and compelling executive communications from and in support of Development leadership. This position reports to the Senior Director for Advancement and Development Communications within the University Marketing & Communications team.

What You Will Do:

Executive Communications (50%)

•Create and implement messaging for the VP for Development, including executive communications, strategic development communications, internal communications and targeted donor communications.
•Provide counsel, support and guidance to school and unit-based development leaders regarding philanthropic communications strategy. Act as a subject matter expert and provide guidance to the VP for Development to make recommendations and illustrate purpose in communications.
•Research, draft, edit and finalize a variety of materials, including messages, newsletters, notes, speeches, talking points, scripts and presentation slides while ensuring content is tailored to the intended audience.
•Maintain the VP for Development’s communications calendar.
•Ensure all communications comply with and elevate the University’s brand and priorities.

Development Communications (40%)

•Develop strategic communications and plans in alignment with the office of the VP for Development.
•Research, write and manage the creation of development communications projects, concepts and whitepapers.
•Oversee the production of materials and communication pieces for fundraising campaigns led by the VP for Development.
•Manage the budget for development communications projects.
•Lead meetings, discussions, workshops and interviews that amplify philanthropic messaging.
•Collaborate with a wide variety of internal partners, stakeholders and leaders to create compelling philanthropic content, communications and support materials to create philanthropic content and development communications support materials.
•Gather and analyze advancement data, market research and other data sources to create communications strategies in support of Development programs and initiatives.
•Use project management strategies and practices to ensure communication projects are collaborative, organized and delivered on time. Track milestones and share updates with stakeholders, as needed.
•Hire, assign and manage contract writers and designers on select projects.

Other Duties as Assigned (10% )

•Participate on internal and external task forces, committees and other forums that address the role of communications in Advancement and fundraising.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, political science or related field AND four years of experience in speech writing or related field.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

•Ability to conceive, implement and evaluate marketing, communication and institutional strategies to promote the impact of philanthropy.
•Previous experience writing on behalf of government, university or business executives.
•Demonstrated ability to identify and adhere to the voice and cadence of the individual for whom the speech or message is being written.
•Experience building and cultivating strong relationships with internal and external constituents.
•Ability to work on multiple projects at once, while always delivering materials on time and sometimes on short notice.
•Experience working in highly-matrixed organizations.
•The ability to handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion and integrity.

•Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
•Local travel when necessary.
