Annual Philanthropy has an exciting opening for a Director for Annual Philanthropy. This is a full-time permanent position.

Reporting to the Executive Director for Annual Philanthropy, the Director for Annual Philanthropy leads annual giving efforts across direct mail, digital and phonathon channels to help achieve annual giving goals. This role provides strategic direction in the development, implementation, and evaluation of annual giving initiatives that build a long-term base of philanthropic support for the University. This critical work includes overseeing multi-channel direct marketing activities aimed at acquiring, reactivating, retaining and upgrading annual donors—with a strong emphasis on expanding the donor base, boosting retention rates and strengthening the fundraising pipeline.

The Director is also responsible for analyzing data trends to strategically plan annual giving fundraising efforts. This leadership role will deploy resources in innovative ways that maximize results and grow the University of Washington’s base of annual support.

What You Will Do:

Leadership and Team Management (25%)

•Collaborate across University Advancement’s central and unit-based teams to align goals and ensure the success of annual campaigns.
•Oversee professional development and career enrichment for annual giving professionals.
•In partnership with the Executive Director, manage, lead, and support the Annual Philanthropy team, which includes student and early-career alumni engagement, mid-level giving and pipeline development.
•Effectively allocate staff and budget resources to implement a top-tier program that meets fundraising objectives.

Strategy Development (25%)

•Engage campus and unit colleagues to build shared understanding of annual giving goals, drive annual giving strategy and align messaging and fundraising strategies.
•Partner closely with the Executive Director to develop key strategies for various annual donor segments to convert annual giving donors into major gift prospects, retain long-term donors and acquire new donors.
•Develop and execute UW's multi-channel annual giving strategy, focusing on innovative approaches to maximize the impact of digital channels.
•Craft compelling and cohesive messaging tailored for diverse platforms and audiences.

Program Development and Management (25%)

•Manage the University’s annual Husky Giving Day in close partnership with University Marketing and Communications (UMAC) and other key partners.
•Direct the annual giving marketing budget to maximize efficiency and ensure that projects are on time and within budget.
•Collaborate with Information Management to extract data, ensure data integrity and develop annual giving reports.
•In partnership with analytics peers, develop data-driven approaches to segmentation and testing and use descriptive and predictive models to enhance direct marketing efforts.
•Develop and implement a thorough quality check system and train staff to ensure error-free output.

Relationship Management (25%)

•Work with external vendors and UMAC to efficiently direct a high volume of activities across direct marketing and digital channels, with measurable outcomes.
•Manage the relationship with the phonathon vendor, providing strategic guidance and ensuring key goals are met.
•Collaborate with both central and unit partners to build buy-in and maximize annual giving outcomes for alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends of the university.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree AND at least four years of experience in annual giving or a related field.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

•Demonstrated experience in annual giving, including experience managing complex annual giving campaigns.
•Experience managing a team and supporting the professional development and growth of staff.
•Strong attention to detail, accuracy and consistency.
•Experience working in a data-driven environment where decision-making is guided by analysis, testing and a commitment to iterative process improvement.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, high initiative, flexibility, and ability to collaborate across functional areas.

What You Can Expect:

•Cubicle/open workspace environment, which may result in higher levels of noise and visual distractions.
•Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short notice.
•Frequent local travel expected.
