TITLE: Retail Pharmacist (Outpatient Services)
JOB OVERVIEW:
The community pharmacist is responsible for providing drug therapy monitoring, prescription preparations, and dispensing in keeping with community pharmacy practice. He/she participates and contributes to the requirements of patient education and quality assurance programs developed by the outpatient services. He/she maintains close working communications with the Director, Pharmacy Services regarding the various pharmacy programs. He/she facilitates the provision of pharmaceutical care in accordance with regulatory agency requirements.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director, Pharmacy Services
PREREQUISITES:
1. Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Washington.
2. Demonstrated teaching ability.
3. Demonstrated experience in the following areas: Outpatient prescriptions, prepackaging, extemporaneous compounding, performance improvement and drug information.
4. Eligible to pursue certification as a Certified Emergency Contraception Program provider.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Professionally ethical and experienced in directing and supervising pharmacy interns, students and/or pharmacy technicians.
Demonstrated ability regarding "customer service" with patients and excellent communication skills with patients, their families and health care professionals.
Current in prescribing trends, new drugs and drug treatment developments in the outpatient setting.
Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships with diverse population.
Participates in and supports professional organizations.
Certified as a Pharmacy Preceptor in the State of Washington or eligible for such certification.
Demonstrates skill in understanding and developing the concepts of preventive medicine and pharmaceutical care.
Experience with community pharmacy computer programs and electronic billing methodologies.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional developments of all age groups.
UNIQUE PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS. ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Extensive medication order entry (keyboarding) into computer.
Requires the ability to continually change priorities in response to changing patient needs.
Requires the ability to work in an environment of constant interruptions.
Requires the maintaining of a knowledge base of current medications, drug therapies, patient counseling services and computer driven, electronic billing systems.

* Responsible for providing quality pharmaceutical care to the Valley Medical Center community of patients. This includes all aspects of dispensing drugs, monitoring drug therapy, as well as having a goal of better patient health. The community pharmacist is responsible for educating patients to improve their health outcomes.
* Responsible for adherence by pharmacy interns, pharmacy externs, pharmacy
residents, and pharmacy technicians to departmental policies and procedures as well as State and Federal laws and regulations.
* Promotes the adherence to VMC policies of providing quality pharmacy service at the most reasonable costs.
* Assures that proper charging documentation is completed correctly for services provided.
* Promote and market Valley Medical Center and The Prescription Pad services to the community, patients, hospital staff, and medical staff in an informational and cost effective manner.
* Maintain a positive, direct, open communication line with members of the VMC Medical Staff and their employees.
* Maintains competency to provide services to patients in a timely manner.
* Completes additional responsibilities/projects when assigned by manager.
