CELE has an outstanding opportunity for a Program Manager for Community Based Internships.
The Program Manager for Community Based Internships leads the day-to-day implementation of the Undergraduate Community Based Internship (UCBI) program; is a member of the facilitation team for General Studies 350 and LEAD 298; and offers strategic support for paid internship programs in the CELE Center. The range of tasks in this position will include: recruitment, advising, and academic support of students interested in community-based internships; outreach and relationship building with community-based organizations that host undergraduate interns; implementation of co-curricular workshops and/or class sessions for community-based interns; the development of campus partnerships to support community-based internship programming; and supervision of graduate student staff focused on undergraduate student development via internships with non-profit and government organizations.
Under the supervision of the Director of Community Engagement, the Program Manager for Community Based Internships will have the following responsibilities:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Community-Based Internships Program Management (60%)
Lead recruitment, advising and placement processes between UW undergraduates and community partner organizations.
Develop and implement information sessions to support undergraduate recruitment for community-based internships
Offer application workshops and/or individualized support for undergraduate internship applicants
Foster strong campus partnerships to support student recruitment, program growth, and overall learning goals for internships across campus.
Maintain existing partnerships with non-profit and government internships via site visits, phone calls, and electronic communicationoften in coordination with the graduate student team.
Provide strategic consultation and logistical support for internship matches between non-profit/government partners and undergraduate students.
Management of the UCBI program budget; additional contributions to long-term strategic planning and program sustainability.
Identify and develop partnerships with (new) community-based organizations in a manner that is consistent with Carlson Center values.
Support community partner's knowledge and facility with community-based internships best practice, as well as community engagement scholarship, pedagogy and practice.
Sustain funding partnerships and seek additional creative solutions to sustain and/or expand community-based internship opportunities for UW students.
Curriculum, Assessment, Program Innovation (25%)
Co-facilitate the General Studies 350 (Internship Practice and Reflection) course in partnership with the Career and Internship Center and/or graduate student staff.
Serve as the instructor of record for LEAD 298 (Special Topics), an optional course for students in the Undergraduate Community Based Internship (UCBI) program.
Support deep student reflection on learning in their internships through workshop and curricular supports; scaffold opportunities for students to demonstrate their critical reflection and professional development outcomes in response to their internship experiences.
In collaboration with campus partners, support additional curricular connections for students engaged in community-based internships.
Participate in the Internship Course Manager Learning community, a group of staff and faculty who share questions, challenges, and best practices for managing internship reflection courses.
Design and implement an assessment plan to monitor experiences of students and community partner organizations; continually improve existing assessment mechanisms.
Work with the graduate student mentor team to monitor and maintain quality of internships and identify potential areas for improvements.
Support institutional funding requirements by producing reports on student involvement and outcomes.
Organizational Culture and Participation (15%)
Interview, hire, and train student staff team to include three graduate staff assistants (1.5FTE) and occasional hourly student support. Coordinate team schedules in a manner that best supports program function.
Provide project management for student staff as they complete many of the day-to-day tasks related to the community-based internships; provide strategic and logistical support for student staff members as they grow their skills and capacities as team members.
Play a key role in developing and maintaining an internal organization culture consistent with CELE Center values and strategic priorities.
Participate in CELE Center, UAA, and other campus workgroups or committees as requested.
Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree
Three years professional experience
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
