Job Summary
This person performs entry level groundskeeping, landscape maintenance and concrete laborer duties. This is an entry level position in which incumbent learns proper methods and procedures for completing assigned duties and becomes familiar with the UWG campus. Duties and responsibilities include: Provide care for campus grounds including mowing lawns, watering flowers and shrubbery, trimming trees and bushes, etc.; Walks assigned area of campus, collecting and removing trash from campus grounds; Plants trees, flowers, and bushes; Rakes and bags leaves; Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides; Learns to operate groundskeeping and maintenance equipment; Assists in inclement weather duties as assigned when needed; Assists in changing attachments on heavy equipment. Assists in erecting forms, wall panels, and rebar placement. Assists in concrete placement, chute operation, raking, sreeding, and hand floats.
Responsibilities
1-
Provides care for campus grounds including mowing lawns, watering flowers and shrubbery, trimming trees and bushes, etc. Plants trees, flowers, and bushes; rakes and bags leaves. Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides. Learns to operate grounds keeping and maintenance equipment, such as lawnmower, trimmer, and pressure washers for cleaning of campus fountain, outdoor furniture and other campus areas.

Assists with concrete placement, chute operation, raking, screeding and vibration. Assists in concrete finishing utilizing: hand floats, hand edgers, bull floats, and various metal trowels. May assist in general grading, debris hauling, loading and unloading supplies. May assist in changing attachments on heavy equipment. May assist in erecting forms, wall panels, rebar placement, snap ties and turn buckles. May assist in metal work; torching and cutting, basic welding and grinders.

Recognizes and follows prescribed safety procedures and regulations.

Recognizes and obtains required tools, equipment, materials, and supplies that are needed to do the job. Maintains proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment in the assigned storage areas. Works with others to keep vehicles and employee work areas clean and orderly.

Participates in department-provided training and learning opportunities to develop work-related skills and abilities. Completes all required training on a timely basis.

Learns to operate grounds keeping and maintenance equipment, such as lawnmower, trimmer, and pressure washers for cleaning of campus fountain, outdoor furniture and other campus areas.

Assists in inclement weather duties as assigned when needed (such as clearing snow from sidewalks and other campus areas). Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or GED.
Other Required Qualifications
Listens to instructions and asks necessary questions to complete tasks. Communicates with fellow workers in a manner that allows work to be completed. Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions. Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees and others.
A valid driver's license is required. Position requires a pre-employment drug test.

Proposed Salary
$15.74 Hourly. Paid on a Biweekly Basis.
