Job Summary
Just west of Atlanta, The University of West Georgia is a vibrant, 24 hour campus with over 12,000 students. UWG is a diverse academic community and is committed to providing a safe environment for those who work and study here as well as those who visit our campus. The University Police Department supports this mission by playing a critical role in the safety and protection of all constituents and serving as a campus partner to other departments that address the needs of the students. The primary focus of this position is to provide continuous patrolling of the campus, responding to reports of crime, respond to calls for service and facility security. Additional essential duties include collecting, recording and securing evidence from crime scenes, interviewing those persons involved, writing reports, and making arrests for violation of state law and local ordinances. Other duties include assisting motorists, responding to medical emergencies, testifying in courts, serving as back-up dispatcher, assisting the Criminal Investigations Division and local law enforcement agencies as needed, serving criminal warrants and other duties as assigned. The Home Department will be the Carrollton location but on occasion will assist to cover the Newnan Campus on a rotating schedule.
Responsibilities

Routine patrol of the college campus and resident dorms.

Enforcing state criminal and traffic laws and local ordinances on campus.

Assisting students with problems and concerns such as mental health and medical issues.

Checking and securing campus buildings.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
A High School Diploma/GED
Other Required Qualifications
U.S. Citizen, 21 years minimum age. No felony or non-motor vehicle misdemeanor convictions, no more than 3 misdemeanors. Pass Assessment Center. Pass UPD Background Investigation. Eligible for certification by the Georgia POST Council. Ability to carry and use a firearm safely and accurately. Must be able to speak and write English in an effective manner. Must be in good physical health, 20/20 vision or vision correctable to 20/20, and have the ability to hear and speak clearly, walk, run, jump, and lift. The position requires the possession of a current/valid Georgia Drivers License in good standing. Ability to work overtime, if needed, and possession of reliable transportation and phone is required. Must possess minimum computer skills or be able to learn to operate the computer programs utilized by the Department. Must pass a drug screen and background check.

Bachelor's degree in criminology/criminal justice, business, counseling or other related field. Must have a GA POST Peace Officer Certification in good standing. Experience in Criminal Investigations. Experience in Title IX Procedures.
Proposed Salary
$22.40 Hourly. Paid on a Bi-weekly Basis.

ABILITIES
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
KNOWLEDGE
General knowledge of the Clery Act.
SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of law enforcement database software; Internet software and Office Suite Processing software.
