Essential Job Functions

The Continuing Education Specialist will play a pivotal role in designing and delivering innovative training programs for mental health and substance use professionals. This position reports to the Behavioral Health Training Partnership Program Director and provides guidance on the planning, design, and development of new professional development opportunities and facilitates cross-departmental communication in support of the establishment of new continuing education programs. Schedules logistics and secures resources for the Behavioral Health Training Partnership, including planning, facilitating, and evaluating trainings and conferences, and may develop and instruct courses for adult mental health and substance use professionals.

What You'll Do

  • Engage in planning, design, and development of new professional development opportunities.
  • Research and select curriculum content, design course materials, and prepare assessment tools to align with program objectives.
  • Disseminate course updates, solicit feedback, and refine curriculum as needed.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact, facilitating communication with colleagues, continuing education students, and organizations.
  • Ensure the accessibility of training materials.
  • Facilitate and instruct courses tailored for adult mental health and substance use professionals.
  • Oversee virtual learning initiatives and support continuing education students.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services or Instructional Design related field
  • Knowledge of county human services systems and issues related to the provision of clinical services to those in crisis, including training needs of behavioral health services staff
  • Working knowledge of desktop hardware and standard business software programs (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, database, Zoom, Microsoft Teams) and the Internet
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Master's Degree preferred
  • 2 years of related experience in community behavioral health or instructional design
  • Training / instruction / instructional design experience
  • Knowledge of transfer of learning concepts
  • Curriculum development skills and awareness of adult learning styles
  • Experience in Canvas and Salesforce
  • Experience in a higher education environment

    Conditions of Appointment

    The work hours for this position will be 7 : 45 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position may have the option to work on-campus or a hybrid schedule, subject to approved telecommuting request. The home campus of this position is Green Bay. The successful candidate may occasionally be required to travel for meetings, trainings, conferences and between campuses.

    Position is a full-time Academic Staff appointment. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s) and if there is prior work history within the last 7 years with Universities of Wisconsin, a personnel file review check for employee misconduct.     Compensation and Benefits

    SALARY INFORMATION

    Minimum salary of $45,000.

    This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    BENEFIT DETAILS

    The UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250 / individual and $500 / family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.

    In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
