Position Summary
The Compliance Specialist reports to the Director of Title IX and Compliance, as part of the Office for Civil Rights and Compliance (OCRC) in the Division of Access, Belonging, and Compliance. This position monitors institutional compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) law. The Compliance Specialist will support measures to develop polices in specific compliance area(s), and create, distribute, and maintain compliance documentation.

The Compliance Specialist will also create, distribute, and maintain compliance training programs to ensure compliance with policies and/or laws and regulations overseen by the OCRC. The person in this role will review incident reports and complaints to determine whether the allegations meet institution criteria of discrimination, harassment and/or retaliation.

The person in this role may independently investigate and assist in the resolution of complex, sensitive and high-profile situations. Under the guidance of legal counsel at the University of Wisconsin System Administration, the Compliance Specialist may also recommend corrective measures in instances of non-compliance.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, student affairs, public policy, government, legal studies or other compliance related discipline required.
  • Experience in adhering to state and federal laws, guidelines, and policy related to compliance with Title II, Title VI, Title VII and Title IX.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and implement complex policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, equality, and integrity when working to resolve complex and private matters associated with institutional, state, and federal laws and policies.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in business administration, human resources, student affairs, public policy, government or legal studies or other compliance related discipline.
  • 3 years of experience in adhering to state and federal laws, guidelines, and policy related to compliance with Title II, Title VI, Title VII and Title IX.
  • Experiences with the student and employee populations in higher education settings, and ability to contribute to the University’s commitment to the individualized needs of students and the campus community.
  • Experience overseeing investigations and facilitating training.
  • Experience using confidential reporting platforms.
  • Proficient in website editing.

  • Completes investigations including interviews, document reviews, and report preparation and writing specific to complex, sensitive, and high-profile discrimination complaints filed with the Institution.

  • Provides consultative services to affiliated entities regarding ongoing investigations.
  • Collaborates with legal counsel at the University of Wisconsin System Administration to adhere to legal requests and negotiate resolutions.
