Position Summary
This position is under the general supervision of the Director of the Counseling & Testing Center (CTC). The Psychologist, Training Coordinator will function as a strong generalist conducting mental health assessments (intakes), urgent care (crisis) assessments, triage assessments and professional counseling services (including individual, couples, group). Other responsibilities include referral, consultation, in-service training, and outreach, as well as crisis intervention services and public relations services to campus and community members as appropriate.

The Psychologist, Training Coordinator assumes primary leadership for developing and coordinating all aspects of the training of graduate level practicum students and psychology interns in the Counseling and Testing Center. This includes candidate selection, developing training curriculum, chairing the CTC training committee, coordinating the training of clinical skills and onboarding for trainees, and being a liaison with local/regional graduate training programs. This position will provide primary clinical supervision to trainees as well as clinical staff under training licenses and will coordinate the consultation group for any CTC clinical supervisors. Finally, this position will work in partnership with the CTC clinical staff to coordinate our in-house training program, with particular attention to trainings aligned with the center’s values of compassion, collaboration, inclusion, and access. Overall, the coordinator ensures that the clinical services provided by trainees are appropriate and that training needs are attended to.

Required Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) from an APA-accredited clinical or counseling psychology program.
  • Currently independently licensed in Wisconsin as a Psychologist, or independently licensed in another state and eligible to apply for a WI license by reciprocity.
  • At least one year of experience providing clinical supervision to trainees in a counseling setting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting outreach programming, presentations, training, and/or workshops relevant to college students.
  • Significant experience conducting brief therapy with emerging adults for a wide range of presenting concerns. Experience with solution-focused (SFBT) and other brief treatment models is desired.
  • Experience providing mental health treatment on a college campus and/or experience working in higher education with culturally and diagnostically diverse college students.
  • Commitment to providing group counseling (psychoeducational/skills, support, and therapy groups).
  • Experience with crisis intervention and risk assessment.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records and computer applications used for telehealth services.

Working conditions and environment
  • Typical office hours (7:45am-4:30pm). Evening hours may be required as we expand our services (e.g., one evening/week), with a schedule adjustment made to maintain an average of 40 hours/week onsite. While no after-hours crisis coverage is required, our clinical staff members occasionally provide evening outreach programming and may be called in for a campus crisis response.
  • Expectations are to provide a combination of in-person and telehealth counseling services.

  • Provide professional counseling services for UWL students, including individual, group, crisis, and occasional couples counseling.
  • Provide initial brief assessment (triage) and urgent care (crisis) coverage.
  • Select, administer, and interpret various psychological, educational, and/or vocational assessments and tests, as allowed by scope of practice and training.
  • Provide appropriate referral resources to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Engage in timely collaboration and consultation with various university departments and offices, as appropriate, to support and advocate for students.

  • Develop and coordinate the training curriculum.
