Department Overview :

The mission of the Information School (iSchool) is to educate responsible leaders, critical thinkers, and creative innovators in the information professions who are adept in the creation, retrieval, use, and curation of information in all its forms. They should be able to provide access to and understanding of information for all those who need or seek it, and contribute to individual and collective knowledge, productivity, and well-being.

They will create and disseminate research about past, present, and future information users and uses, the processes and technologies vital for information management and use, and the economies, cultures, and policies that affect information and access to it.

They will contribute to the development of the faculties of information schools through a doctoral program built on interdisciplinary research and teaching excellence, and provide useful service to information professionals, the people of Wisconsin, and all information users.

Qualifications :

Required Qualifications :

  • Excellent academic standing in a current graduate program.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills (native speaker, undergraduate degree from an accredited US university, or satisfactory SPEAK test scores required; see for more information).

Additional Desired Qualifications :

  • Previous teaching experience and experience teaching in an online learning environment preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

    Experience in public libraries, especially in the areas of strategic planning, outreach and partnership, marketing, working with local governments, board of directors, and funders required.

    Position Summary / Job Duties :

    Under the general supervision of the Director of the Information School and the Certificates Coordinator, teach LIS 712 : The Public Library in an online format during a portion of the summer semester of the 2024-25 academic year; June 16 - August 10, 2025. Duties include preparation of a pre-approved syllabus in consultation with iSchool staff, preparation and grading of assignments and examinations, holding synchronous office hours and communicating with students via email, virtual meetings, or by other means.
