What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Planner II position at University of Wisconsin Madison?
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Learning Success and Assessment, this position works with deans, faculty, and staff in the Wisconsin School of Business (WSB) to provide academic operational and administrative support. A team of two Academic Planners support the school's curricular innovations, academic governance processes, and scheduling/timetable functions among other related activities. The Academic Planners serve as a resource within the school in relation to complex curricular and academic governance requirements, policy interpretation, and process improvements. The Academic Planners play a key role in building and maintaining positive relationships with cross-campus partners.
Responsibilities: Supports academic, course, and curricular planning and implementation of the academic structure at the school, college, or division. Implements, operationalizes, and assesses the use of policies and procedures to comply with policies set at the school, college, division, institutional level, UW System level, and externally set requirements. Identifies needs and recommends policy and process improvements to school/college/division level leadership.- 5% Incorporates improvement recommendations into existing academic programming policy and practice based on school, college or divisional needs and external requirements (e.g., academic accreditation)
- 35% Reviews proposals for new academic programs, program changes, curriculum, and/or courses to ensure that proposals meet policy standards, and provides feedback to proposing academic units
- 10% Designs and delivers directed academic planning and programs messaging to internal and external audiences; maintains all records and documentation of academic, curricular, and course change actions
- 5% Collects, prepares, and analyzes academic program information and prepares reports and analyses of patterns of activity based on that information
- 10% Ensures that the work of formal school, college, or divisional planning council or curriculum committees operate effectively and according to committee procedures, which includes among other activities, agenda and document preparation and distribution, communication with members and presenters, and follow up communication
- 5% Provides recommendations for changes to policy and advances proposals for policy changes to meet changing needs of the academy in partnership with governance committees and colleagues in academic units
- 5% May develop new approaches, methods, or techniques to resolve problems and addresses unexpected, controversial, or complex situations
- 25% Directs and leads collaborative activities across units, schools, colleges, and divisions

- 3 Years experience in higher education
- Demonstrated experience explaining or educating others on complex processes and/or policies
Preferred:
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with a variety of campus stakeholders
- Technical aptitude for learning and using a variety of systems, including experience using Student Information Systems (such as PeopleSoft), LUMEN, CourseLeaf, EMS, HelioCampus, or similar systems
- Experience organizing complex tasks and managing multiple concurrent projects independently
- Ability to identify a need for and suggest new and revised policies and processes
- Skilled in drafting and reviewing communications for a variety of audiences
- Capable of interpreting, enforcing, explaining, and citing existing policy
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
The person in this position may request and be considered for a formal partial remote work agreement (not to exceed 40% remote work) based on guidelines set forth by the school, and/or may be provided with remote work flexibility as needed and approved by the supervisor.
