What are the responsibilities and job description for the Berger Lab Researcher I position at University of Wisconsin–Madison?

Job Summary:

Review and analyze the causes and consequences of economic precarity research projects. This is a timely and policy relevant project that stands to have important implications for Wisconsin and national social policy for low-income populations. It is being funded by NIH and supported by data sharing agreements and considerably interest from multiple Wisconsin agencies. It is highly emblematic of the Wisconsin Idea and, as such, requires a highly-skilled scientist who is positioned to efficiently engage with the substantive, methodological, and data components of the study.

Responsibilities:

Provides technical expertise to fundamental and/or applied scientific research under the direction of senior research personnel or faculty.
  • 20% Collects and analyzes basic research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • 20% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities and assists with publications
  • 10% Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
  • 20% Assists with the development of research methodologies and procedures
  • 20% Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
  • 10% Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding

Qualifications:

  • Expertise in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies
  • Extensive experience using the Wisconsin Administrative Data Core, an extremely complex data system, the use of which typically requires a minimum of 6-months of training

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 24 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

Salary:

Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurance and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
