Job Summary : The Department of Pathobiological Sciences in the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor in clinical pathology. Responsibilities will include clinical diagnostic service and clinical teaching, teaching pre-clinical veterinary students in an integrated curriculum, collaborative research, and academic service. Competitive candidates will be committed to excellence in diagnostic clinical pathology, training of clinical pathology residents, and advancing the field of clinical pathology. The minimum requirements for the selected candidate include a DVM or equivalent, ACVP (CP) or ECVCP board eligibility, and licensure or eligibility for licensure in Wisconsin. Two years of post-residency experience in clinical diagnostic pathology are preferred but not required. ACVP (CP) or ECVCP Board Certification must be obtained within the first 15-months of hire.Responsibilities : The successful candidate will join a team of three board-certified clinical pathologists, who support the teaching hospital at the SVM. Our clinical pathology laboratory and its staff are expertly supervised and managed by a medical laboratory technologist-microbiologist. The functionally designed diagnostic laboratory, including microbiology and parasitology sections, resides within the newly opened small animal hospital expansion. The UW-SVM and teaching hospital are conveniently located on the UW-Madison campus along the shores of Lake Mendota.The University of Wisconsin's culture of collaboration and collegiality provide many opportunities to interact and engage professionally and socially. Colleagues in the Department of Pathobiological Sciences have expertise in infectious disease, immunology, and comparative clinical and anatomic pathology and include Directors of the Comparative Ocular Pathology Laboratory of Wisconsin, the Midwest Center for Excellence in Vector-borne Disease, the Influenza Research Institute, and the Global Health Institute. Additional expertise within the SVM?s other three departments include veterinary oncology, comparative genetics and orthopedic research, respiratory and reproductive biology, neuroscience, toxicology, and cell and developmental biology. UW-Madison has an international reputation built on collaborative research across the diversity of schools and professional programs such as Medicine and Public Health, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Engineering, Dairy Science, and Computer, Data, and Information Sciences, which are all within walking distance. Support and training for translational research are housed within the NIH-funded Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, and excellence in teaching is cultivated through the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Mentoring. Responsibilities within the diagnostic laboratory include cytologic and select hematology examinations, review of diagnostic reports, consultation on other laboratory tests, interpretation of flow cytometric data, and shared oversite of laboratory equipment, procedures, and quality with the other pathologists, laboratory supervisor, and staff. Limited out-of-hours cytology (in-person) and troubleshooting or consultation (by phone) are shared by duty pathologists. The selected individual will effectively communicate with clinicians from other hospital services, including participation in cross-disciplinary rounds. They will participate in mentoring and training clinical pathology residents, teaching in the veterinary curriculum, and academic service. Clinical-track faculty will be expected to develop an active scholarly program through creation and dissemination of new knowledge in clinical pathology via clinical cases or collaborative research.The approximate distribution of effort for clinical-track is expected to be :
