Job Summary:

The Research Billing Specialist will join the Department of OB/GYN's clinical research office that provides clinical research coordination and regulatory support services to faculty, staff, and trainees conducting obstetrics and gynecologic-related research. Under direction of the Clinical Research Manager, the incumbent will analyze research protocols for clinical procedures to ensure comprehensiveness and accuracy of complex clinical research budgets, preparation of research budgets, negotiation with research sponsors regarding budgetary issues and routing contract documents through appropriate channels. In order to prepare accurate and compliant budgets, the applicant must be able to learn and understand complex research protocols. Developing a knowledge of UW Hospital and Clinics (UWHC), UW Medical Foundation (UWMF) and UnityPoint Health Meriter Hospital is important to budget development and management. This position must also learn, understand and apply university, state, and federal regulations that govern clinical research, and apply current issues in the ethical conduct of clinical research, particularly in the area of financial compliance.

Responsibilities:

Serves as an internal unit expert related to clinical research billing rules and regulations. Provides clinical trial billing compliance consultation services, oversight, and education to research teams and investigators
  • 30% Oversees research billing compliance activities to ensure unit is in full compliance with institutional, regional, and federal research billing compliance rules and regulations. Advises researchers related to proper set up and execution of billing activities for patients on clinical trials
  • 30% Interprets complex clinical trial protocols while applying expertise in research billing rules, clinical workflows, sponsor requirements and electronic system capabilities to configure and review study calendars and budget setup for clinical trials
  • 10% Performs Medicare coverage analysis for complex research studies to promote and confirm compliance with billing rules and regulations. Works with study teams to ensure compliance
  • 15% Develops and implements internal quality control processes to ensure calendar and budget builds reflect accurate trial information and comply with research billing rules
  • 10% Provides expert guidance when issues arise during reconciliation of unit patient charges to ensure appropriate billing. Identifies and implements changes in clinical trial protocol calendar set up as needed
  • 5% Provides training and resources related to research billing to study teams

Qualifications:

  • Experience with budgeting and/or post-award management preferred.
  • Experience in a medical and/or research setting preferred.
  • Experience with medical or insurance billing preferred.

Research staff with budgeting and/or post award management experience are encouraged to apply. We are also open to new graduates and those with limited experience who are willing to learn.

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 12 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

Salary:

Minimum $63,126 ANNUAL (12 months)
