Job Summary:

The Custodian Lead position is a team member of the Wisconsin Union -Facilities Custodian Team. Duties include:
  • Lead worker duties that include assisting in training new employees, inspect progress and quality of building services.
  • Basic custodial duties that include routine maintenance and cleaning, waste removal, and snow/ice removal.
Work performed under the guidance of a Custodial Services Supervisor and Custodial Services Assistant Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

Cleans institutional facilities, removes waste and recycling, and monitors building security to ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in assigned areas. Leads the custodial work of others and responds to custodial emergencies.
  • 50% Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
  • 5% Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
  • 10% Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
  • 5% Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
  • 10% Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
  • 15% Schedules, monitors, and communicates with staff and assists with basic training
  • 5% Responds to facility emergency and hazardous situations, and escalates incidents according to established policies and procedures

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Previous custodial work experience for 6 months or more.
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather.
  • Ability to shovel snow and ice outside in winter conditions.
  • Ability to conduct trash-recycling-compost gathering and disposal daily, based on needs.
  • Applicants must possess a working knowledge of the English Language.
  • Ability to Lift 50lbs.
  • Ability to carry 50lbs.
  • Ability to push 100lbs.
  • Ability to pull 100lbs.

Work Schedule:

Tuesday - Saturday 6:30am - 3pm

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $18.36 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
  • Plus an additional $2.50 per hour for night hours worked (6pm-6am).
  • Plus an additional $0.80 per hour for weekend hours worked.
  • Plus Time and a half per hour for hours worked on designated legal holidays.

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.

Student Affairs is led by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Our staff is dedicated to serving students and to helping them succeed in and out of the classroom in areas including health and well-being, identity and inclusion, leadership and engagement, and student advocacy. Student Affairs includes departments led by the dean of students; departments that provide identity-based spaces and leadership resources; the Wisconsin Union; University Health Services; and University Recreation and Wellbeing.
