Job Summary:

The Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics (NEEP) is in search of a Financial Specialist II.

Under general supervision of the Academic Department Manager, the Financial Specialist provides financial management, transaction processing, and administrative support for the Department. This position is the main resource for Department activities relating to reimbursements, payments, and purchasing. The position serves as the first point of contact for Department faculty members, staff, and graduate students for advice, direction, training, and problem resolution relating to financial transactions and processes. Non-routine business is handled by this position to make it a truly broad and versatile service for meeting or resolving complex activities.

From cancer and heart disease to clean energy and space travel, the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics integrates fundamental physics, mathematics, and engineering principles to solve critical societal problems, all while educating new generations of leaders.

Responsibilities: Primarily reviews, approves, and advises on a variety of advanced financial transactions. May prepare some financial transactions and reconciles transactions. Recommends controls and process improvements, troubleshoots advanced financial errors. Maintains financial records, provides administrative processing support, and provides customer service for staff and customers in an assigned program area to support program financial management.
  • 20% Audits, monitors, organizes, and updates fiscal records, reports, and affiliated materials
  • 10% Creates general reporting for transactions
  • 30% Audits or processes advanced transactions and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
  • 20% Audits or reconciles original purchase documents with payments
  • 5% Reallocates expenses to appropriate funding strings
  • 5% Drafts communications and advanced reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
  • 5% Answers advanced fiscal questions and provides information based on set materials and standards to various audiences
  • 5% Reviews transaction processing internal controls and recommends policies and procedures

Education:

Preferred
Associate's Degree

Qualifications:

REQUIRED
1 year training and/or experience in business, accounting, or finance
Proficiency with Excel and/or Google sheets

PREFERRED
2 years experience in business, accounting or finance
Experience working in an academic setting
Experience with procurement cards and/or purchasing processes
Experience with expense reimbursements
Must possess excellent customer service and professionalism; be courteous, respectful, responsive, cooperative.
Must possess excellent organizational skills, a propensity for detailed accuracy, and the ability to organize and coordinate diverse activities.

8:00 to 4:30

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

The anticipated hybrid work schedule will be up to two days remote, with 3 days onsite after an initial training period
