The Health & Well-Being Institute (https://health.extension.wisc.edu/) supports healthier lives by working with and for the people, communities, and Tribal nations of Wisconsin to build relationships, facilitate learning, and pursue data-informed and culturally-based strategies.

FoodWIse (https://health.extension.wisc.edu/foodwise/) advances healthy eating habits, active lifestyles and healthy community environments for families with limited incomes through nutrition education at the individual, community and systems levels. FoodWIse is federally funded by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) and Expanded Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP) grants.

The Nutrition Educator is a member of the Area 6 FoodWIse team. Nutrition Educators are peer educators who co-learn with community members and adapt teaching to honor cultures and experiences. Nutrition Educators engage people from the diverse communities of Wisconsin to adopt healthy food and physical activity habits. This position has a bilingual preferred qualification, which means a bilingual skillset is desired to bolster programming initiatives but is not required. A bilingual title designation and unique responsibility will be added to the final position description if the final candidate passes the language proficiency assessment

Responsibilities: Instructs and/or assists individuals and families engaged in various outreach programs. Delivers research-based educational programs to support and empower people where they live and work. Provides general support on public issues for the benefit of the community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences.

  • 60% Teaches culturally relevant educational programs to adults and youth using learner-centered activities and lessons
  • 15% Implements initiatives and events that serve the target audience
  • 5% Procures and maintains course materials and supplies
  • 10% Tracks program evaluation and incorporates feedback for improvement
  • 5% Helps design marketing materials and promotions for programs
  • 5% Communicates plans, activities, and achievements to relevant stakeholders

Required:

  • Ability to teach interactive lessons to youth and/or adults in group settings
  • Work, volunteer or life experience with people or groups with limited income
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional work environments
  • Ability to effectively work with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice to support opportunities and outcomes for youth, families, and communities
  • Must be able to carry educational equipment, up to 25 lbs

Preferred:

  • Spanish or Hmong speaking, writing and comprehension skills; knowledge and understanding of Hispanic/Latino or Hmong culture. Language skills will be evaluated.
  • Volunteer or work experience related to food and nutrition education
  • Experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules while maintaining high quality work
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other agencies, community-based services, or organizations

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $44,102 ANNUAL (12 months)

Starting FTE (full time equivalency) will be determined with the finalist.

This position has a bilingual preferred qualification. Upon the successful completion of a Language Proficiency Assessment, a 'bilingual' prefix will be added to the official title. The bilingual prefix is accompanied by a $3500.00 pay increase applied to the annual salary.

  • The primary accountability relationship for this position is the Area 6 (Eau Claire, Chippewa, and Dunn Counties) FoodWIse Nutrition Coordinator for supervision, compensation and benefits, and performance reviews.
  • This position's primary programming focus is Eau Claire County however, some programming may also be conducted over a broader geographical area (Dunn and Chippewa Counties).
  • It is expected that employees will make individual arrangements for transportation adequate to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions.   • This position may be required to work occasional nights and weekends to meet the program needs and priorities of the communities served.
