Job Summary:

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

This position works within the Waisman Center's Autism and Developmental Disabilities (A&DD) Clinic. This position entails providing assessment services within an interdisciplinary outpatient setting for children referred for neurodevelopmental evaluation and intervention. This position will also be expected to participate in quality improvement efforts within the clinic. Other responsibilities may include provision of early intervention services, the supervision of psychology trainees, collaboration on research related to neurodevelopmental disabilities, and conducting trainings for community organizations, childcare professionals, and primary care networks.

Responsibilities:

Provides direct clinical services to patients and clients in a clinical, research, education, or public health and safety setting. Engages in the full range of psychological services including assessment (psycho-diagnostic and psychological assessment services), evaluation, consultation and/or psychotherapy to promote the mental health and well-being of patients.
  • 45% Performs patient psycho-diagnostic, psychological assessments and evaluations
  • 5% Identifies patient psychological disorders and emotional patterns to understand and predict behavior
  • 5% Assesses safety risks and develops safety plans for at-risk individuals
  • 5% Develops, implements, and monitors individual and group psychological treatment programs with clinical staff and physicians
  • 10% Completes clinical treatment reports in accordance with department and agency guidelines
  • 10% May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students
  • 5% Contributes to core functions of the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), including activities of training/teaching, conducting research, disseminating evidence and best practices, and demonstrating model services.
  • 15% Engages in clinical research in collaboration with clinicians and researchers at the Waisman Center.

Education:

Required
Terminal Degree
A Doctoral degree in Clinical or School Psychology required.

Qualifications:

Well-qualified candidates will have the following required experiences:
  • Two years of specialized training and experience working with clients with developmental disabilities and their families. Specialized training or experience may be pre-doctoral or post-doctoral but must be intensive (20 hours per week or more) and focused on this client population.
  • Clinical experience working with children and youth with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities and their families, including experience providing assessment and treatment.
  • Assessment skills in the areas of cognitive, adaptive behavior and socio-emotional/behavioral functioning. Substantial experience with autism specific diagnostic measures such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2).

Well-qualified candidates will have the following strongly preferred experiences:
  • Five years of specialized training and experience working with clients with developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Prior experience providing intervention services and conducting behavioral consultation with children and youth with developmental disabilities, especially autism spectrum disorder.
  • Experience engaging in clinical research related to intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Experience engaging in dissemination and outreach activities (e.g., conference presentations, community trainings, publications).
  • Experience supervising psychology trainees.

License/Certification:

PSY - Psychologist - State Licensure
Must be licensed as a psychologist in the State of Wisconsin or eligible to practice in the State of Wisconsin within six months of hire.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $90,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Must complete HIPAA training and receive certification within the first 5 days of employment and annually thereafter.
