Job Summary:

Are you passionate about using research to improve healthcare? The research lab of Dr. Fred Ketchum is seeking a research assistant to join a team based at the University of Wisconsin's Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR). Our research is dedicated to improving how patients and their healthcare providers communicate about cognitive and memory problems, to help older adults get the diagnosis and treatments they need sooner.

Your main responsibilities will include collecting qualitative data, participating in qualitative analysis and coordinating a human-centered design research project. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in research activities such as participant recruitment and retention, training in qualitative and human-centered design methods, and building relationships with other entities to expand research collaborations in healthcare and community settings. You will work closely with the principal investigator (Dr. Fred Ketchum) and other members of the research team at the Center for Health Disparities Research, which is a vibrant, interdisciplinary center dedicated to identifying and eliminating disparities in healthcare.

Responsibilities:

Designs methodology, conducts data collection and analysis, and prepares reports for client-based research.
  • 20% Assists with the development of research methodologies and procedures according to client-based objectives and specifications
  • 5% Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
  • 20% Collects and analyzes basic research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • 15% Prepares reports and materials and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • 5% Reviews and edits research protocols under general supervision
  • 15% Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
  • 20% Participates communication, outreach, and informational presentations to contribute to the development of collaborations and new research opportunities

Qualifications:

Minimum Required Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
  • Research experience with a range of qualitative research methods and experience with qualitative analysis software (e.g. NVIVO)
  • Experience with human-centered design methods (or user-centered design methods)

Preferred Skills, Experience, Qualifications:
  • Interest in and basic familiarity with community outreach, and engagement of diverse communities in research

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Computer experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including ability to effectively speak in small group contexts with different stakeholders

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 75% - 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $60,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information:

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship.
