Job Summary : The Technical Editor position is located within WIDA's Communications and Marketing department, and the position will report to the Managing Editor. This position will be responsible for producing and editing high-quality technical assessment documentation, collaborating on the design and development of assessment training materials, and gathering and implementing feedback from internal and external stakeholders. The technical editor will audit and remediate documents to ensure compliance with accessibility requirements. While most work will focus on technical editing, this position will periodically review and edit non-assessment materials.

Remote work is an option for this position on a voluntary basis; however, it is important to note that this role is headquartered in Madison, WI, and the tasks of the position require occasional work-related travel. If working remotely out-of-state, travel back to UW-Madison would not be reimbursable, and other business travel will require cost comparisons between your home and Madison, WI.

WIDA operates in a Windows-based environment, and a Dell PC laptop will be issued for use in this role. Software and virtual connection tools that are critical to our work dictate that WIDA staff work on a PC.

Responsibilities :

  • 30% Edits, revises, and proofreads materials and resolves errors or inconsistencies in style, syntax, grammar, and format
  • 10% Plans, develops, creates, and publishes internal and / or external communications
  • 20% Manages production deadlines
  • 5% Provides information and consultative advice about editorial policies, procedures, and services to contributing stakeholders
  • 10% Provides in-depth research and fact-checking for publication and distribution
  • 10% Develops and maintains the style guide, including editorial standards and policies
  • 15% Authors a range of materials for use by internal and / or external audiences

Education :

Required : Bachelor's Degree

Qualifications : Required :

  • Minimum 3 years' experience with reviewing and editing technical documentation, training materials, and assessments, preferably in the fields of education and language testing.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience auditing and remediating documents (Word, Excel, PPT, PDF) for accessibility based on Section 508 and / or W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
  • Experience with document accessibility tools, preferably using PAC 2024, NVDA or JAWS.
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills, including syntax and mechanics.
  • Familiarity with APA and AP styles and experience aligning text and references to specific styles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and Adobe Pro.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn complex topics and make them easily understandable.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work individually and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Preferred :

  • Multilingual or bilingual / biliterate in Spanish.
  • Experience with PreK-12 education, education research, psychometrics, or language testing.
  • Work Type : Full Time : 100%

    It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location.

    Minimum : $65,500 ANNUAL (12 months)
