The Police Officer serves as a law enforcement officer at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, operating with full arrest powers under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant. The primary responsibilities include ensuring the personal safety of all individuals on campus, maintaining a peaceful environment to support the University's academic mission, preventing and detecting criminal activity, and apprehending individuals involved in such activity. Additionally, Police Officers provide a wide range of services to students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. This is a full-time, non-exempt university staff position on the night shift with expected continuous employment. A one-year probationary period is required.

The UW-Parkside Police Department provides 24/7 police and dispatch service to approximately 5000 students and staff on a 700-acre campus. The department employs a community policing approach and focuses on student success and safety.

Full Time Pay Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. $29.86-$38.73 per hour for LESB certified officers.

  • Enforce state statutes, administrative code, campus and residence hall policies

  • Investigate complaints and interview witnesses

  • U.S. Citizen
  • 21 years of age
  • Successfully completed a minimum of 60 college credits
  • Possess a valid driver license and good driving record
  • Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) certification is a requirement to be employed in the position. Strong candidates who are not yet certified may be chosen and sponsored by the department at a state approved LESB training academy

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a higher education environment and experience working with diverse multicultural populations.

Physical Demands of the Job:

  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Functional cervical (neck) and trunk rotation to perform duties such as driving, observing surroundings, and engaging in physical activity.
  • Ability to crouch, kneel, and crawl to perform tasks in confined spaces or during tactical operations.
  • Capability to run, sprint, and perform sustained physical exertion during emergency response or pursuit situations.
  • Proficiency in maintaining balance and agility during high-pressure scenarios or uneven terrain.
  • Ability to climb over obstacles, including fences and walls, and ascend or descend stairs and ladders.
  • Manual dexterity to operate tools, and other police equipment.
  • Sufficient visual acuity to identify individuals, objects, and threats in various lighting conditions.
  • Adequate hearing to detect alarms, radio communications, and sounds indicating potential threats.
  • Ability to perform extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting, including long shifts in patrol vehicles.
