Position Summary:

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications to fill a tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor in electrical engineering specializing in Power and Energy. This position will teach, conduct research, and provide community and university service.

This is a full time, benefit-eligible position with a 9-month academic appointment. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of Wisconsin System has a nationally top ranked retirement plan and a comprehensive benefits package. Candidates that have experience in undergraduate instruction and mentoring, online instruction, research and teaching related to Power and Energy systems are encouraged to apply. Review of candidates will begin on December 9, 2024. Applications will be considered until the position is filled. The successful candidate is expected to start in August 2025.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility will be to develop and teach undergraduate courses in Electrical Engineering and related subjects including labs. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting research and seeking extramural funding, developing curriculum, advising students and student organizations, participating in outreach including visits to industry and recruiting local students, and participating in department, college, and university service committees. The applicant is expected to teach some of the courses using alternative delivery methods including distance education.

Requirements:

  • An earned Ph.D. by August 2025 in electrical engineering, power and energy, or a closely related field.
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate education and student success.
  • Ability to teach introductory undergraduate courses in electrical engineering as shown here under "electrical engineering courses".
  • Ability to teach mid- and upper-level courses in Power and Energy as shown here and the related Renewable Energy Systems courses as shown here.
  • Ability to teach online streaming courses as needed.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and undergraduate research.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Electrical Engineering at UW-Platteville

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is recognized for its excellent undergraduate programs. The programs provide students with the knowledge and experience needed to pursue a productive lifelong career in industry or to engage in further study at the graduate level. The department consists of the Electrical Engineering program, Computer Engineering program, and Sustainability and Renewable Energy Systems program. In Fall 24, there were 76 full-time new freshman enrollments in Electrical Engineering and 28 in Computer Engineering. As of Fall 24 the department has 9 tenured faculty and serves a total of 355 undergraduate students. The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering aligns with the mission statement of the university by delivering a hands-on approach, where students learn by doing. Students in this program take 67 credits of coursework with laboratory associated with them, which results in them being career-ready upon graduation. The department also offers courses to remote students through Platteville Engineering Partnership program. Most of the courses in ECE department are also streamed for this group of students.
