Position Description:
This student is funded through the College of EMS Undergraduate Research Assistantship program. The student will conduct undergraduate research with Dr. MacKenzie and focus on mechanistic studies of the photochemical reaction between hexafluoroisopropanol and 4-chloroanisole.
Job Duties:
- Make solutions and measure electrochemical potentials using cyclic voltammetry
- Learn some basic computational chemistry and determine energies of various reaction intermediates
- Receive training on UW-Madison’s PhotoNMR and take kinetic measurements of the reaction using 1H NMR spectroscopy
- Keep a detailed lab notebook and compile findings in a final report
