Position Summary
The Career Services Director develops strategy, policy and protocol, administers services, and cultivates relationships for career advising and/or employer relations efforts within a school or college to ensure all constituents receive quality career services support. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership for Career Services (35%)
- Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised operational policies and procedures for career advising and/or employer relations within a school or college
- Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes career development unit objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources, and alignment with the strategic plan
- Serves as a liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups to provide information on career outcomes and career services
- Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to understand employment needs and encourage recruitment of the institution’s students
- Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- Participates and leads in the campus-wide career services community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college
- Develop, direct, and implement annual unit action plan for Career Services.
- Oversee all office assessment initiatives including establishing the annual assessment strategy, managing data collection and analytics, and writing the office annual report.
- Provide high-level oversight for all career events and workshops, career development resources, and individual services for students and alumni delivered by Career Services.
Manage all aspects of the campus-wide First Destination graduate outcomes survey (30%)
- Serve as the project manager for the campus-wide First Destination graduate outcome survey, and primary liaison for Embark/Lightcast, including managing the annual contract process, developing annual strategic data collection, analytics, and marketing plans, and monitoring survey completion and knowledge rates.
- Coordinate all supplementary outreach and secondary data collection efforts including social media posts, texting and calling campaigns, social media searches, department chair outreach, and commencement participation.
- Strategically communicate annual First Destination Survey outcomes internally and externally.
Provide leadership for career readiness initiatives across campus (20%)
- Develop, implement, maintain, and promote career readiness initiatives and resources.
- Build and maintain collaborations and partnerships across Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Strategic Enrollment, and other internal and external stakeholders to create, promote, and embed career readiness initiatives into all elements of the UW-River Falls student experience.
Provide supervision and budgetary oversight of unit (10%)
- Exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked for Career Services staff members.
- Provide clear work direction to direct reports.
- Oversee financial management of unit.
Perform other related duties as assigned (5%)
- Serve on various university-wide and system-wide committees.
- Identify and engage in professional development opportunities.
- Engage in other projects and initiatives as requested.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in career services or a related student affairs/services position in a post-secondary setting
- Previous experience with First Destination Survey or a similar career outcomes assessment
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Effective time management and project management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership and/or professional staff supervisory experience
- Budget development and management experience
