ATTENTION:


The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater invites applications for a part-time instructor position to teach American Sign Language (Adjunct Instructor, IC004).

This is a fixed-term appointment with reappointment for subsequent terms dependent on performance, University needs, funding, staffing requirements, and enrollment. For information on fixed-term contracts, please see: UW System Admin Policy 1250: Job Security.

JOB DETAILS:


The position will involve teaching first- and second-semester ASL courses. The contract period is for one academic year with possibility of reappointment.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in American Sign Language OR tested experience deemed to be equivalent to the degree
  • Proficiency in ASL

Preferred Characteristics:

  • Native/near-native fluency of ASL

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Willingness and ability to help promote and grow the ASL program and mentor students
  • Willingness and Ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds

RESPONSIBILITIES:


Teaching responsibilities include ASL 141 - Beginning American Sign Language I and ASL 142 - Beginning American Sign Language II. Course load is dependent on instructional need, funding, and enrollment. We anticipate offering one section of ASL 141 during the Fall 2025 semester.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:


The UW-Whitewater Department of World Languages and Cultures houses programs in Arabic, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish, with ASL set to become its newest program. The department supports other programs as well as serving the general student population in fulfilling BA or other language requirements.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:


Well-qualified candidates can expect compensation at the College of Letters and Sciences standard per-credit rate.

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater does not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position.
