What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director Multi-Model Instructional Supports position at University of Wisconsin System?
The University of Wisconsin-Stout (UW-Stout), Wisconsin's Polytechnic University, is seeking applications for a Director of Multi-Modal Instructional Supports. This newly created position will provide a critical role in promoting a culture of innovation and excellence in multi-modal learning, through the management of instructional professional development and onboarding activities for faculty and instructional staff and oversight of online student supports.
UW-Stout invites applicants who have a growth mindset to drive effectiveness of learning programs in support of student success and the university's polytechnic tenets of applied learning and research, business and industry collaboration, and career focused learning experiences. The addition of the position aligns with the university's FOCUS2030 strategic plan.
As a direct report to the Associate Provost of Curriculum Quality, the position will expand the UW-Stout ecosystem to ensure both instructors and students have the necessary supports for a quality educational experience across all modalities and scaffolded according to learning needs. UW-Stout's Academic Affairs teaching and learning support ecosystem currently includes: the Nakatani Teaching and Learning Center, the Instructional Design Program and the Educational Pathways and Outreach Department. The Academic Affairs team works in close partnership with stakeholders across the university to support learning advancement, including the university's artificial intelligence integration technologist, Learning Technology Services, faculty and academic instructional staff.
This is a full-time, annual, limited appointment. Applicants may be considered for a concurrent tenure appointment per UWS Administrative Policy 1250. The projected start date is July 2025.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum / Required
- Master's degree in related field by employment start date
- Five years of higher education learning technologies and professional learning design experience, including artificial intelligence literacy
- Experience leveraging learning management systems (LMS) to develop and implement learning plans and utilizing assessment tool insights to revise educational approaches to achieve outcome goals
- Strong record of helping teachers be effective
- Demonstrated understanding of the rapidly changing higher education environment at the local and national levels
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills in working with a diverse community of faculty, staff, students, and campus stakeholders
- Three years of experience supervising, supporting, and evaluating staff
Highly Desired
- Experience with implementing Universal Design for Learning strategies
- Strong record of teaching
- Attention to detail, proofreading, and editing skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment and on collaborative efforts with diverse user groups
- Record of scholarly activities
RESPONSIBILITIES
The outcomes of each responsibility should support UW-Stout's distinctive polytechnic's context to support undergraduate, graduate and non-degree seeking learner populations.

Leadership and Collaboration: Collaborate with academic leaders, faculty, instructional academic staff and other stakeholders to promote a culture of innovation and excellence in multi-modal learning advancement. This includes:
- Support of learning content development, curricular revision and facilitation of agile delivery modalities to diverse student learners
- Leadership of Stout Online, the student support structure for online programs
- Communication across divisions for successful collaboration and in support of UW-Stout's broad multi-modal portfolio (delivery of badges, certificates, apprenticeship, and degrees, etc.)

Professional Development:
- Identify, design and coordinate a menu of professional development for instructors, including self-serve and high-touch services with both program-level and individual instructional design questions/requests, to support instructional success across multiple-modalities. Programs should integrate career-focused content, applied learning, and serve the needs of both working professionals learning part-time and full-time students.
- Facilitate a consistent onboarding/training program for online instruction and the structure of course shells in support of student success. UW-Stout hires a significant number of faculty and instructional academic staff with strong business/industry backgrounds and limited formal training in pedagogy. This should inform unique and accessible professional development opportunities in support of our polytechnic identity and student success.
- Work with faculty, staff and Stout Online staff to align instructional training and support that responds to student feedback.

Technology Integration: Work closely with various university stakeholders to oversee the integration of educational technologies that support and enhance multi-modal learning experiences.
- UW-Stout is a laptop campus, where students and faculty have access to leading edge technology, relevant to career-focused education. The ecosystem of technology involves communication and coordination across areas such as Learning Information Technology (LIT) which includes the university's AI integration technologist, Instructional Resource Services (IRS), faculty and staff.

Emerging Trends/Technologies: Stay informed about emerging trends and technologies in education to incorporate innovative practices into multi-modal learning that engages and learners effectively.
For example, artificial intelligence requires a redesign of teaching methods across most disciplines and UW-Stout is working to adapt at-scale. As another example, plans are underway for a mixed-media lab (MiXR) located in the University Library that will provide students, faculty, staff and external stakeholders services tied to instructional technologies such as alternate reality, virtual reality, etc. - Compliance and Standards: Ensure all multi-modal learning initiatives comply with relevant educational standards and regulations. Actively contribute to the university taskforce working to ensure university-wide accessibility instructional compliance with the Department of Justice reauthorization of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilize data to assess the effectiveness of multi-modal learning initiatives, to inform and implement continuous improvement, and provide regular reports to senior leadership and the university community. The Director will ensure that teaching support metrics for student success are measured, continuously improved and communicated.
- Supervision: Oversee and support Academic Affairs staff as assigned.
