What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music and Theatre Arts: Instructor for Acting position at University of Wisconsin System?
POSITION: Acting Instructor. 100% FTE Instructional Academic Staff Position in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts for the 2025-26 Academic Year beginning with a contract start date of August 18, 2025 (note that classes don't begin until September 3, 2025). The official title is in the Lecturer title series. This is a one-year renewable appointment and salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
QUALIFICATIONS: MFA, MA, or PhD. ABD considered. Background in musical theatre strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience in directing, and teaching at the collegiate level preferred. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties and responsibilities include teaching five courses per semester, including a combination of Beginning Acting, Theatre Appreciation, American Musical Theatre, Voice and Diction, and Stage Movement, as well as directing one mainstage production a year (1 course reassignment) with an emphasis in musical theatre productions.
DEPARTMENT: The Department of Music and Theatre Arts serves approximately 110 majors and minors in undergraduate programs in theatre arts and dance and offers BA degrees in theatre, and musical theatre, as well as a certificate in dance. The Department also serves approximately 375 music majors and minors and is supported by 30 full-time and 11 part-time faculty, specifically 6 full-time faculty in theatre and dance. The theatre and dance programs are primarily housed in the Pablo Center for Performing Arts (opened fall of 2018) which includes a 1200-seat theatre, a flexible 400-seat theatre, rehearsal, dance and community rooms, labs for sound and lighting, set and exhibit design, recording arts, multimedia production and costume design. The department is highly regarded in the state and region, and our faculty are well known for the quality of their performances and for their innovative teaching.
