Job Summary :

The School of Computer, Data and Information Sciences (CDIS) is looking to build an IT team, in preparation for moving into a new building in Summer 2025. This position will be one of the IT Team members.

The CDIS IT team will support teaching, learning, research, and administration. The team will provide equipment for instructor use in instructional settings; an IT helpdesk service; support for classrooms, meeting spaces, and conference rooms in Morgridge Hall; and IT support for faculty and staff in Computer Sciences, Statistics, and the School of Information. The IT team will manage a highly complex and technical network, server, security systems and application systems used by faculty and staff and will work closely with college and campus partners to deliver and manage UW-Madison enterprise systems.

The successful candidate will have an established track record of problem-solving skills, exhibit both attention to detail and big-picture perspective, and have the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of faculty and staff throughout CDIS and UW - Madison. In addition, they must possess a wide range of technical skills and experiences and be capable of developing a deep understanding of the technical systems that make up the foundation of technology services within CDIS and UW-Madison. They will work collaboratively with their team, IT staff in L&S Administration, IT staff throughout L&S, and DoIT to deliver comprehensive IT services and resources.

Responsibilities :

Contributes to strategic planning and provides subject matter expertise regarding the design, integration, delivery, and provides innovative and strategically significant consultation, project management, and operational support of applications or services, development operations (DevOps), affecting multiple disciplines or work units. Anticipates issues, devises resolution methodology, and provides long term and non-routine assistance to ensure subsystems and infrastructure function together and business needs are met. Serves as a subject matter expert, internal and external point of contact, and provides guidance to leadership on technology strategies and critical technology issues.

  • 15% Contributes to strategic planning and provides guidance and expertise on system options, risk, cost vs. benefits, and impacts on processes and goals
  • 15% Analyzes requirements and communicates and coordinates with staff and stakeholders related to the system and / or project
  • 20% Leads the development and programming of automation workflows for deployment, configuration, and / or monitoring of systems / services
  • 15% Researches, designs, manages, and maintains automation tools including security configurations
  • 10% Leads and performs integration, migration, configuration, and security of existing applications and services into automated infrastructures
  • 15% Serves as a subject matter expert to internal and external stakeholders and leadership, and provides guidance and training to staff
  • 10% Identifies, troubleshoots, researches, and resolves issues on complex and non-routine systems and applications to

ensure reliability, security, confidentiality, compatibility, and functionality.

Qualifications : Required :

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in computer systems support.
  • Experience with modern programming languages.
  • Professional experience managing large deployments of systems running Linux, MacOS, and Windows operating systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Preferred :

  • Minimum 3 years customer service experience.
  • Experience evaluating service performance in relation to strategic goals and key performance indicators.
  • Professional experience managing A / V systems in conference and meeting rooms.
  • Professional experience in higher education IT systems and services
  • Work Type : Full Time : 100%

    It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

    Minimum $127,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

    Depending on Qualifications

    The typical starting salary will be $127,000 to $181,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
