We would love to hear how your experiences translate to this position, the University’s Mission, Vision, and Values, and encourage you to submit an application today!JOB TITLE : Director, Risk, Claims & Insurance - Risk Management OfficeJOB PURPOSE : Responsible for managing and overseeing the University of Wyoming’s (UW) international, educational, and student health insurance, claims processing and risk management functions, ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal regulations. This position is responsible for handling claims related to educational and international activities, collaborating with multiple departments, managing insurance programs, and providing critical administrative support to the Risk Management office. This position will analyze complex financial and operational data, develop risk mitigation strategies, and implement best practices across UW’s risk management and claims processes.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Risk Management Services : Provide risk management guidance and support to UW departments, external entities, and individuals, answering questions and offering advice on various aspects of risk management and insurance.Provide Risk Management support services to Global Engagement.Manage electronic tracking, notice, event management software / vendor relationships.Assist in the development and maintenance of UW’s Risk Management policies and procedures, ensuring compliance across the organization.Act as the primary liaison between UW and insurance carriers, brokers, actuaries, and other external vendors to facilitate communication and data gathering.Support the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) in analyzing and mitigating risks related to daily operations, special events, international travel, experiential learning, and other high-risk activities.Assist in risk analysis for international and domestic travel, including pre-trip planning, safety reviews, and emergency response strategies for faculty, students, and staff.Support UW’s loss control activities, including the implementation of safety protocols and the management of risk mitigation measures.Address and resolve risk-related complaints in a timely and effective manner.Oversee and manage special projects related to risk management, including system upgrades, training initiatives, and compliance audits.Claims Management : Oversee the receipt, processing, and adjudication of all international, travel, education, and student claims against the University of Wyoming.Maintain an accurate database and records of all claims, ensuring proper documentation and tracking.Investigate, adjust, and resolve claims in a timely and equitable manner, working to minimize UW’s financial exposure.Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of claims to relevant insurers, governmental entities, and internal stakeholders, as necessary.Monitor and manage allocated loss adjustment expenses for self-insured programs, applying effective claim and data management techniques.Subrogate claims on behalf of UW to minimize financial losses and maximize recovery.Assist in claims-related actuarial studies and provide necessary data for actuarial analysis.Provide regular reports on claims performance and trends, including loss allocation and financial reporting, and collaborate on short- and long-term planning and goal setting for claims management.Insurance : Manage insurance programs for UW, including international travel, student health, specialty education programs, and other lines, as necessary.Oversee the insurance renewal process, review, and recommend new insurance coverages, and assess the appropriateness of coverage in coordination with the Chief Risk Officer and other stakeholders.Support the university’s insurance programs by coordinating enrollments, waivers, and financial reconciliations for student health insurance.Ensure compliance with UW’s Risk Transfer guidelines, particularly with regard to external vendors and contractors.Provide education and training to faculty, staff, and students on risk management and insurance-related matters.Administrative and Financial Support : Provide administrative support to the Risk Management Office, including managing office equipment, filing, handling correspondence, and performing other general office duties.Assist the Business Manager with claims accounting activities such as processing payments, managing accounts, interdepartmental billing, and reconciling purchasing cards.Produce reports as needed for Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), the total cost of risk, departmental cost of risk, and other financial reporting and audits related to risk and claims.Support the Risk Management team with financial analysis, budget reconciliation, and loss allocation reporting.Planning and Strategy : Participate in short-term and long-term risk management planning, helping to define objectives and recommend improvements in risk management, claims processes, and loss control.Collaborate with Global Engagement to provide risk management support for international travel and faculty / staff / student exchanges, including risk assessments and emergency planning.Provide recommendations for enhancing UW’s risk management framework and ensuring ongoing compliance with industry’s best : This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States, as sponsorship for work authorization or work visas is not available for this position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : EDUCATION : Bachelor’s Degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.EXPERIENCE : 5 years of direct work-related experience.LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS : Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy .DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS : Preferred : Associated in Risk Management (ARM).Preferred : Certified Risk Manager (CRM).Preferred : Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).Experience identifying, analyzing, and mitigating risks related to international activities, such as study abroad programs, international research collaborations, or overseas operations.Knowledge of international travel and security protocols, including crisis response and medical evacuation processes.Strong understanding of legal, financial, and operational risks in an international context, including regulatory compliance, export controls, data privacy, and foreign government regulations.Familiarity with emergency response planning for international incidents.Knowledge of experiential learning in higher education including internships, service-learning, co-ops, study abroad, or field-based education.Experience identifying and managing risks associated with experiential learning programs, including internships, service-learning, co-ops, study abroad, or field-based education.Strong understanding of legal, financial and operational risks associated with experiential learning programs, including health, safety, liability, and compliance considerations.Familiarity with risk mitigation for off-campus and community-engaged learning environments.Knowledge of relevant policies and regulations, such as FERPA, Title IX, ADA, OSHA, and standards for workplace and educational partnerships.REQUIRED MATERIALS : Complete the online
