University Physicians Association is seeking qualified applicants for a Patient Service Rep - Genetic Counseling Assistant for a surgical office at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. This person will work directly with the Oncology Genetic Counseling clinic.

Job Summary: The Genetic Counseling Assistant (GCA) provides specialized support to the Oncology Genetic Counseling clinic. This position supplies administrative and scheduling support and other basic duties essential to providing genetic counseling and risk assessment for hereditary cancer and tumor predisposition conditions to oncology patients and families. This position is supervised by the Manager of University Surgical Oncology at UT Medical Center Cancer Institute.
The ideal candidate is compassionate, eager to learn, and flexible with excellent time-management skills and ability to multitask.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Prepares and completes pre-visit information including collection of relevant medical records and lab reports, medical records review, literature review, pedigree drafts, test requisition forms, and drafts visit notes.
- Schedules patient appointments. Triage appointments based on treatment decisions (surgery or systemic therapy options).
- Mails results and/or result letters to patients.
- Completes routine correspondence including letters of medical necessity and insurance preauthorization/precertification requests.
- Completes referral letters to physicians and patients.
- Contacts laboratories to obtain test information, status updates, testing supplies, etc.
- Scans or uploads genetic results in our electronic medical record, Powerchart.
- Coordinates and schedules meetings for the genetic counselor.
- On an as-needed basis, attend Multidisciplinary conferences. Prepares Genetic counselor with records needed prior to the conference.
- Represents Genetic counselor in Multidisciplinary conference if counselor is unavailable.
- Assists Genetic counselor in clinic with genetic testing paperwork and test packing and shipping in clinic.
- Maintains the genetic testing result and genetic counseling referral databases.

Requirements
- 1-3 years related work experience required.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records, test requisitions, pathology reports.
- Strong organization and multi-tasking skills and ability to prioritize work effectively.
- Strong skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis, and maintain databases.
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff, and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem-solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
