MISSION
The purpose of this job description is to highlight the responsibilities, qualities, and mission of teachers
at the University Preparatory Academy. UPA is a community of learners, both teachers and students,
staff, and families. Teachers are at the core of our mission here at UPA and that is to prepare students to
enter and excel in the best colleges or universities in the nation.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizational
1. Works collegially with departmental team to support the school’s vision, mission and philosophy;
assist the team in meeting its planning goals.
2. Works to always ensure that the classroom provides a safe, supportive learning environment for
students, teachers, and all other members of the UPA community.
3. Helps promote a culture where diversity is encouraged and where students learn to respect
differences, take responsibility for their actions, exercise leadership, and strive for academic
excellence.
Instructional
1. Develops the content of courses in relation to the school's philosophy, objectives and
appropriate UPA recognized programs.
2. Provides a welcoming, safe, and secure classroom environment always, for all UPA youth.
3. Maintains records of work covered in all his/her class(es), including, as appropriate:
? assessment records in Schoology and PowerSchool
? classroom planning records (such as a daily planner)
? curriculum planning, as designated;
? curriculum scope and sequence information
4. Correct all student assignments regularly and promptly.
5. Meets all internal deadlines to produce school reports.
6. Inform parents of students' progress by way of progress reports and report cards and, where
necessary, letters or individual meetings.
7. Is available for all parent-teacher conferences.
8. Attends all relevant meetings, including planning meetings.
9. Is familiar with new developments and methods in the teaching of his/her field.

UPA serves a diverse population of 7th through 12th-grade students, most of whom reside in Santa Clara County. UPA’s campus is easily accessible, located off Highway 87 at Curtner Avenue. The campus is located across the street from a light rail station and local bus station. This strategic location enables UPA to draw students from school districts throughout Santa Clara County. UPA is a college preparatory alternative for those students who are not performing to their potential and get lost in traditional large middle and high school settings.
