University Prep (UPrep) is seeking a talented, engaging, and compassionate Upper and Middle School French and Spanish Teacher. Job Summary: 

Under minimal supervision, teaches French and Spanish at various levels. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other members of the faculty and staff. Serves as an advisor and actively participates in the life of the school outside of classroom teaching responsibilities.

 

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Teaches three sections of Spanish & one section of French in Upper School or a combination of both Upper and Middle School 
  • Provides classroom instruction and management 
  • Serves as a grade-level advisor for a grade-level team by being an advisor or co-advisor for up to 10 -12 students 
  • Actively participates in the life of the school outside the classroom (e.g., coaching, advising, clubs, etc.) 
  • Possible other duties include one co-curricular activity and one additional duty per day (e.g., study hall, lunch supervision, etc.) as assigned by a division director 
  • Chaperones at least one school event outside of normal school hours (e.g., dance, service, social event) as determined by a division director 
  • Participates in school-related functions (e.g., Open Houses, Back to School Night, Commencement, etc.) as determined by the Head of School and division directors 
  • Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents 
  • Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the school’s constituencies 
  • Vigorously engages in their own professional development 
  • Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities 
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Qualifications


Education & Experience: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in French or Spanish Language or French or Spanish Studies required 
  • Master’s degree preferred 
  • 3 years’ teaching experience preferred 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Fluency in French, Spanish and English required  
  • Knowledge of the Spanish-speaking and the Francophone world
  • Competence in the content area and pedagogy specific to the developmental needs of Upper and Middle School students 
  • An understanding of and commitment to the school’s mission

  • A commitment to student-centered education and inclusive classroom practices

  • Demonstrates skill to use appropriate formative and summative assessments and strategies in the classroom 
  • Commitment to teaching the whole child 
  • A working understanding of Universal Design for Learning and Understanding by Design concepts 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all constituents in the school community 
  • Ability to maintain confidential information 
  • Flexibility, maturity, and a sense of humor 
  • Ability and flexibility to use Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, learning management systems, online meeting and conferencing applications, and operating Audio/Visual equipment 
  • Ability and interest in coaching and/or working in our outdoor program is a plus 

 

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary range is $64,157 - $116,644 based on education and years of experience.
