Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision and in a collaborative environment, teaches one Upper School PE Intensive three-week course. This long-term substitute position runs from May 19, 2025 to June 6, 2025 with the possibility to continue through the Fall Semester 2025.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Teaches one Upper School PE Intensive three-week course
- Engages in lesson planning with other department members and colleagues to support the growth and development of our 6-12 grade program
- Delivers curriculum that supports our departmental and school commitment to social justice and global citizenship
- Provides classroom instruction and management
- Participates on a grade-level curricular team and attends all department meetings
- Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
- Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Physical Education & Health/Exercise Science or related field required
- Recent successful PE and Health teaching experience in a Middle School or Upper School environment preferred
- Teaching Certificate preferred
- Advanced degree in education or the subject area preferred
- 2 years’ teaching experience preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated competence in the content area and pedagogy for quality Health & Physical Education
- Good understanding of the developmental needs of Middle School and High School students
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
- Sense of humor, energy and enthusiasm and ability to hold students and oneself to high expectations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to create an active learning environment that supports understanding, passion and creativity in students
- Ability to use formative assessments and strategies in the classroom
- Experience being part of a curricular and co-curricular team preferred
- Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
- Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity
- Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft or Mac environment using Office, Google Drive and Outlook.
- Comfortable with operating Audio/Visual equipment
- Ability to work and communicate with all levels of faculty and staff, students and families
Compensation & Benefits:
- Compensation is $300 per day
- Since this position is temporary, only statutory benefits are offered
