University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men is currently seeking candidates for a Special Education Teacher position for the 2025-2026 school year.

The current salary range is $48,000 -$53,000; negotiable based on level of education, experience, and work history.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Standards and Assessment:
- Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state legislation regarding students with disabilities
- Implement the students Individual Education Plan
- Implement program modifications and testing accommodations for students when indicated on the students Individual Education Plan
- Demonstrate knowledge of the continuum of services available for students with disabilities
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in delivering special education services using different models such as resource room, consultant teacher and integrated special class
- Modify instructional strategies to meet the needs of students
- Use appropriate instructional materials consistent with student needs
- Collaborate with the general education teacher in planning and delivering instruction
- Plan, develop, and deliver an instructional program based upon world class standards of performance for all students.
- Design developmental and interdisciplinary learning experiences that stimulate inquiry, creativity, discovery, and participation.
- Teach to specific learning styles.
- Utilize performance based, content appropriate and authentic instruments to assess student performance and achievement.
- Demonstrate content matter knowledge and content related skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Intentionally establish strong, positive relationships with students or a family member to learn with you and from you through daily authentic and culturally relevant/responsive mindsets and actions in the classroom and outside of the classroom.
- Effectively collaborate with colleagues to improve the instructional practices and outcomes as a department, grade-level, and school.
- Be a cultural leader: Strategically create and contribute to positive norms and expectations within the classroom and school in accordance with the PBIS model.
- Accountability: holding oneself accountable as a professional, demonstrating excellence in accordance to the Danielson Teacher Framework.
- You prioritize school safety first. Supervise and maintain the physical safety of self, students, colleagues, and families at all times. Seek support and assistance as needed for the physical and mental health of self and others.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification/License: NYS Teacher Certification or Out of State Teaching Certification equivalent preferred in Special Education with Content Area Specialty.
- Education: Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Special Education or Master’s Degree in related area preferred.
- Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade/content area specially is a plus.
- Experience working within a diverse urban educational population is strongly desired.
- Demands, Hazards: Works in standard office and school building environments.
- Equipment: Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, telephone, and other assigned technology
